RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond Kickers added to their technical staff on Friday as the club announced that Adrian Clewlow and Mika Elovaara will join Head Coach David Bulow for the 2019 USL League One season.

Clewlow, who holds a NSCAA Advanced National Goalkeeping Diploma, returns as the club’s goalkeeper coach. In his playing days, Clewlow was a four-year starter and two-year captain at the University of Richmond. After college, he played professionally with Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC, the New Orleans Storm and the Kickers before jumping into coaching at the collegiate level.

“I’ve had the pleasure of working with Adrian the past few seasons with Richmond United and last summer with the Kickers,” said Bulow. “He brings an energy to the club that is infectious and has a team-first attitude in training the goalkeepers and defense.”

Most recently serving as the Commissioner of the Boys Elite Clubs National League, Elovaara comes to the Kickers with a wealth of experience both on and off the field. In his playing days, he was a four-year letter winner at the University of North Carolina Wilmington and went on to make over 150 professional appearances in Finland. Elovaara has previously served as the associate head coach of the University of Richmond women’s soccer program and holds a USSF B License, UEFA B License, and UEFA Football Strength and Conditioning diploma.

“Mika is one of the most important acquisitions this offseason,” said Bulow. “His knowledge of the game, work ethic, and passion for the future of the Richmond Kickers makes him an important asset. I can’t wait to work with him in bringing success to RVA both on and off the field.”

The Kickers will begin their preseason campaign against Virginia Commonwealth University on Feb. 16 before kicking off the 2019 League One season on March 30 against Lansing Ignite FC.

“The team is coming together well,” said Bulow. “I’m eager to get on the field and start working with this group of players. There’s a lot of excitement about the talent and ambition in the club, both on the field and in the front office. Our home opener against Lansing can’t come fast enough.”
