TUCSON, Ariz. – FC Tucson added a pair of new signings on Wednesday as the club announced it had signed defenders Kody Wakasa and Andrew Wheeler-Omiunu for the 2019 USL League One season. Per club policy, the details of the contracts will not be released.

Wakasa most recently spent time with Tuscon's USL Championship partner Phoenix Rising FC, appearing in 13 matches for the club in 2018 as it went on to claim the Western Conference crown. Over the past two seasons, Wakasa has accumulated 42 appearances and 36 starts for Rising FC.

“I am looking forward to playing with FC Tucson in their first pro season,” said Wakasa. “I look forward to working with the staff and getting to work with my teammates. Let’s make history together in Tucson!”

Wheeler-Omiunu joins from 2018 MLS Cup champion Atlanta United after being selected 46th overall by the club in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft. He featured once for the MLS side last season, but spent the majority of the year on loan with USL Championship side ATL UTD 2, where he made 10 additional appearances.

A Harvard graduate, Wheeler-Omiunu registered four goals and eight assists in 64 career appearances for the Crimson. During his college career, he also suited up for the Seattle Sounders FC U-23s, playing in USL League Two for FC Tucson Head Coach Darren Sawatzky.

“I’m very grateful that FC Tucson has given me an opportunity to represent their club and continue to develop as a player,” said Wheeler-Omiunu. “I look forward to being a part of what I hope to be a great first year for the club professionally!”
