Center back joins after two seasons with the Richmond Kickers

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Greenville Triumph SC bolstered its back line on Tuesday as the club announced the signing of defender Evan Lee, pending league and federation approval.

Lee joins Greenville after spending the past two seasons in the USL Championship with the Richmond Kickers. Lee made 20 appearances for the Kickers in 2017, while last season, Lee made just four appearances and played a total of 289 minutes.

“We are excited to welcome Evan Lee to Greenville Triumph SC,” said Greenville Head Coach John Harkes. “I have monitored Evan’s career at Richmond, and he has done well. Evan is a tall, strong center back with good feet and has an ability to read the game from a deep position.”

The Toledo, Ohio native spent his collegiate career playing at Ohio Wesleyan University. In his time with the Battling Bishops, Lee won three North Atlantic Conference championships and was named the conference’s Defender of the Year as a senior in 2015.

“Being a part of the first team is very special,” said Lee. “There are countless soccer players around the country and world, and to be chosen by John and the rest of the staff to be a part of this is amazing.”

Lee, who played his first professional season with FC Cincinnati in 2016, joins fellow defender Tyler Polak and forward Jake Keegan on Greenville’s inaugural roster.

“To be able to build something from the ground up will be great,” said Lee. “We have no pressure from past teams to live up to. We truly are writing our own story!”
