South Georgia Tormenta FC Owner and President Darin Van Tassell revealed plans to explore the possibilities of joining the USL Division III in Statesboro, Georgia, on Friday.

Van Tassell also announced intentions to expand the club's ownership base and create a 5,000-seat soccer-specific stadium at The Clubhouse on Old Register Road.

Founded in 2015, Tormenta FC currently plays in the Premier Development League, the top amateur league in North America. The club competes at Erk Russell Athletic Park on the campus of Georgia Southern University.

In April, Statesboro was recognized as one of nation's premier cities in the America’s Best Communities Competition. The city earned the $1 million third-place prize after more than 50 cities from across the nation submitted an application.
