NAPLES, Fla. – FC Naples announced on Monday the club had signed veteran defender Luca Mastrantonio ahead of the 2026 USL League One season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.
Mastrantonio joins Naples having spent the past season with AV ALTA FC, where he made 14 appearances and logged 854 minutes in the regular season. The 28-year-old has recorded 101 appearances in League One over his career, which previously included stints at FC Tucson and Union Omaha, winning two league titles in the 2023 and 2024 seasons with Los Buhos.
“We're excited to welcome Luca to FC Naples,” said Head Coach Matt Poland. “He’s a proven winner and has been one of the league's top center backs, with a track record of consistent high-level performance. Luca brings strong leadership and experience, and his presence will be a key part of maintaining our high defensive standards this season.”
The Italian native began his career in 2015 with Italian Serie D side A.S. Ostia Mare Lido Calcio before moving stateside to pursue his collegiate career. Between 2016 and 2019, Mastrantonio progressed through three levels of American college soccer, playing at the University of Northwestern Ohio (NAIA), Rockhurst University (NCAA Division II), and the University of California-Irvine (NCAA Division I), where he earned All-Big West First Team honors during his senior season.
Prior to joining the professional ranks, Mastrantonio also competed in the USL League Two with Thunder Bay Chill in Ontario, Canada, helping the club advance to the 2017 USL League Two Final. He delivered in the crucial moment, netting the winning goal in Thunder Bay's 1-0 Semifinal victory against FC Golden State Force.
Mastrantonio has since recorded 7,795 minutes across five seasons in League One, logging 423 recoveries, 122 interceptions and 379 clearances while winning 375 duels at a 61.5 percent success rate and 68 tackles at a 64.2 percent success rate.
