SPOKANE VELOCITY’S NIL VINYALS SCORES LATEST GOAL IN LEAGUE ONE PLAYOFFS
Spokane Velocity FC midfielder Nil Vinyals scored a 121st-minute equalizer against Portland Heats of Pine on Sunday night in the Semifinals of the 2025 USL League One Playoffs, sending the game to a penalty shootout. In doing so, the Spaniard recorded the latest goal to be scored in extra time in USL League One Playoffs history.
Vinyals surpassed the record set one week earlier by teammate Anuar Pelaez, whose 115th-minute penalty kick against South Georgia Tormenta had claimed the record in the Quarterfinals. Overall, there have been 10 goals scored in extra time in seven editions of the League One Playoffs.

One Knoxville SC took a 1-0 victory against FC Naples in the Semifinals of the 2025 USL League One Playoffs on Saturday night and maintained the club’s undefeated home record in League One play this season. One Knox is now undefeated in 23 consecutive home games across the regular season and playoffs, the longest home undefeated streak in league history.

Should the side win the USL League One Final on Saturday night against Spokane Velocity FC, it would match the feat of Union Omaha a season ago when Los Buhos reeled off nine consecutive home wins across the regular season and playoffs to close the campaign and lift the League One title for the second time.

Spokane Velocity FC goalkeeper Carlos Merancio earned his second penalty shootout win on Sunday night as he recorded two saves to lead Velocity to a 6-5 victory from the spot against Portland Hearts of Pine in the Semifinals of the 2025 USL League One Playoffs presented by Terminix. In doing so, Merancio became the first goalkeeper to record two shootout wins in the same postseason in League One Playoffs history.
Now in his second season with Velocity, Merancio has also tied former teammate Brooks Thompson for the most shootout wins by a goalkeeper in the League One Playoffs. Thompson recorded one shootout win for Spokane in the 2024 Semifinals against Forward Madison FC and one for North Carolina FC in the 2023 USL League One Final against the Charlotte Independence.

2025 USL League One Golden Boot winner Juan Carlos Obregon Jr. set a League One record in the regular season campaign, with his 17 tallies for Westchester SC the most by a player for a first-year club in league history.
The Honduran international surpassed the mark set by North Texas SC’s Ronaldo Damus, who scored 16 regular season goals in the league’s inaugural season in 2019. Obregon was joined in the top five all-time by FC Naples’ Karsen Henderlong (14 goals) and AV ALTA FC’s Eduardo Blancas (11 goals).
