Veteran shot-stopper earns award for second consecutive season, set for League One Final on Sunday evening

TAMPA, Fla. – USL League One announced today that One Knoxville SC’s Sean Lewis had been voted the 2025 USL League One Goalkeeper of the Year, with the veteran shot-stopper earning the award for a second consecutive season after another vintage year for the Players’ Shield winner.

Lewis is the second goalkeeper in League One history to earn consecutive Goalkeeper of the Year honors after Greenville Triumph SC’s Dallas Jaye, who took the award in the 2019 and 2020 seasons.

“I’m very grateful to be receiving this award,” said Lewis. “Firstly, I’d like to thank my family. Without their love and support I wouldn’t be where I am today.

“I’d also like to thank all of my coaches and training partners. I’ve been fortunate to work with so many amazing people throughout my career. Their guidance and dedication has helped me continue to grow as a player.”

The 33-year-old earned his second consecutive honor after notching the highest save percentage of Golden Glove-eligible goalkeepers at 73.4 percent on 59 saves while recording an individual single-season best 10 shutouts. Lewis also produced solid underlying numbers, posting a -0.59 Goals Prevented mark in the regular season, while recording a 0.88 goals-against average to tie for the league-lead.

A native of Rockford, Mich., Lewis has starred since joining One Knoxville ahead of its first season in the professional ranks in 2023. Among goalkeepers with at least 50 regular season appearances in league history, he ranks first with a save percentage of 75.5 percent in 70 appearances while also logging 25 shutouts and 196 saves.

Lewis earned the Goalkeeper of the Year award with 40 percent of the ballot, voted on by technical staff from every club in the league following the regular season. Spokane Velocity FC’s Carlos Merancio finished second on 38 percent, while Chattanooga Red Wolves SC’s Jason Smith finished third on 22 percent.

Lewis is set to feature in the 2025 USL League One Final on Sunday evening when No. 1 seed One Knoxville SC hosts No. 3 seed Spokane Velocity FC at Covenant Health Park. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET with the game set to air on CBS Sports Golazo Network.
