SPOKANE, Wash. – No. 3 seed Spokane Velocity FC will host its first playoff match in club history when No. 6 seed South Georgia Tormenta FC comes to town Sunday night for the Quarterfinals of the 2025 USL League One Playoffs. The No. 3 vs. No 6. matchup pits the 2024 League One Finalists against the 2022 League One Champions at ONE Spokane Stadium at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN+.

How They Got Here

Spokane Velocity FC (14-7-9, 51pts) – Spokane was one of the hottest clubs in the early going, rattling off six consecutive wins between mid-April to mid-May across all competitions. The second-year club stumbled in July, scoring just one goal in four matches, but bounced back with a three-game winning streak where it conceded just one goal. Spokane dropped points in each of its final three home games but earned nine points in its final six away matches to help the 2024 expansion club host a Quarterfinal as it looks to make a second consecutive trip to the League One Final.

South Georgia Tormenta FC (13-11-6, 45pts) – Looking to bounce back from its second-worst finish since joining League One in its inaugural season, Tormenta failed to come out of the gates as sharply as they would have hoped. After beating two non-professional opponents, Tormenta fell to USL Championship side Charleston Battery in the Third Round of the U.S. Open Cup, and that result was followed by just one victory in its next eight matches across all competitions, which came in the USL Jägermeister Cup. A combination of draws and one-goal wins kept Tormenta afloat in June and July before a coaching change after the resignation of Ian Cameron and appointment of current Head Coach Mark McKeever saw Tormenta hit the accelerator in attack. From its final game in August, the team picked up consecutive wins, taking victories in eight of its final nine matches, to slide into sixth place.

All-Time Series

Through four all-time matchups between these two teams, Spokane has claimed the lone victory, a 1-0 road win this May. The other three have all been tightly contested draws, including the inaugural match between the clubs last season, which after a back-and-forth 90 minutes ended 3-3.

Opta Says

45.86 – Spokane had an Expected Goals total of 45.86xG, the second highest in the league this year, but recorded only 41 goals in the regular season.

55 – Tormenta led League One with 55 goals in the regular season while posting a 41.05 Expected Goals mark that sat just above league average.

Players to Watch

Spokane Velocity FC – Luis Gil: The former United States international has been a pivotal piece for Spokane during its first two seasons, leading the team in goals during the 2024 regular season. He followed up with seven goals and three assists this year, appearing in all 30 of Velocity’s League One matches.

South Georgia Tormenta FC – Niall Reid-Stephen: The Barbadian attacker had a steady start to his professional career, tallying just one goal in League One before the start of June. But as the summer rolled on, Reid-Stephen stepped on the gas and found the back of the net in consecutive games four times, helping him finish with 13 goals, good for third in the Golden Boot race.
