Chattanooga goalkeeper Jason Smith named Player of the Week with five-save shutout

TAMPA, Fla. – USL League One today announced the Team of the Week for Week 24 of the 2025 regular season, with Chattanooga Red Wolves SC goalkeeper Jason Smith named Player of the Week presented by Konami eFootball with five saves in a shutout road victory against Texoma FC.

The first-year professional recorded his seventh League One clean sheet of the season, helping Chattanooga return to the top of the table with a five-save shutout victory against Texoma. Matching a career-high five saves in a single match, the 22-year-old became just the third first-year professional goalkeeper to record seven or more clean sheets in a single League One regular season.

"I am grateful to receive player of the week and very happy with my recent run of form," Smith said. "Individual awards are nice, but they are a testament to the strength of our group. I am fortunate to be a part of a team that pushes me to be the best version of myself day in and day out. I think that the values of hard work, standards, and togetherness are seen in our collective effort every single weekend.

"Finally, I'm thankful for the mentorship and preparation Ricardo Jérez provides to help me continually improve. Scott [Mackenzie]'s trust in my ability and Ricardo's guidance have been instrumental in me showcasing my strengths."

GK - Jason Smith, Chattanooga Red Wolves SC: Smith made five saves in Chattanooga's 1-0 victory against Texoma, leading the Red Wolves to the top of the table. The first-year professional also tallied nine recoveries, completed 67% of his passes and connected on three long balls.

D - Jordan Ayimbila, Chattanooga Red Wolves SC: The 24-year-old Ghanaian helped Chattanooga keep a clean sheet against Texoma with one penalty kick won, six recoveries, three clearances, three interceptions, three fouls won and two completed long passes. Through 90 minutes, Ayimbila won all four of his tackles and 10 of his 11 duels.

D - Chris Garcia, Forward Madison FC: Garcia played an integral role in Madison's scoreless draw against Naples, completing 94% of his passes, winning nine duels, adding four recoveries, winning four tackles, recording three clearances and completing a pair of dribbles.

D - Declan Watters, Chattanooga Red Wolves SC: Watters scored the winner against Texoma in the 10th minute, before adding nine clearances, five duels won and a 68% passing accuracy rate.

M - Gabriel Cabral, South Georgia Tormenta FC: Cabral controlled the midfield in South Georgia's 3-2 victory in Richmond, scoring the second of Tormenta FC's three goals before finishing with an 86% passing accuracy rate, seven accurate long passes, six duels won and four clearances.

M - Darwin Espinal, Richmond Kickers: The veteran goalscorer returned to the scoresheet following a nearly three-month hiatus, bagging his seventh league goal of the season in a 3-2 loss against South Georgia. The 30-year-old also completed 63% of his passes, placed four shots on target, recorded three recoveries and won three duels.

M - Nils Seufert, Richmond Kickers: Seufert was productive in the Richmond midfield, winning 11 duels, completing 80% of his passes, registering seven recoveries, winning five tackles and connecting on four long passes.

M - Mason Tunbridge, South Georgia Tormenta FC: Tunbridge won and converted a penalty kick early in South Georgia's 3-2 victory against Richmond. Through 62 minutes, the 24-year-old also completed 74% of his passes and totaled three recoveries.

F - Christian Chaney, Charlotte Independence: The league's second-most productive goalscorer added to his tally on Friday, scoring the winner against Westchester in the 20th minute. In 74 minutes, Chaney also completed 77% of his passes, won seven duels, recorded three successful dribbles and placed two shots on target.

F - Babacar Diene, One Knoxville SC: The second-year professional has continued to perform in his first season with Knoxville, scoring his seventh goal of the season in match-winning fashion against Omaha. In his side's victory against the defending champions, Diene added a 64% passing accuracy rate, six duels won and two shots on target.

F - Ropapa Mensah, Greenville Triumph SC: In the closing minutes against Antelope Valley, Mensah scored his first League One goal for Greenville to salvage a draw on the road. The 27-year-old also completed 65% of his passes, won six duels, connected on four long balls and created three chances.

Coach - Ian Fuller, One Knoxville SC: Fuller helped Knoxville stretch its unbeaten streak to seven matches in league play, defeating Omaha for the first time in club history and downing a defending league champion for the second time in club history. Per American Soccer Analysis, Knoxville led all teams in goal differential above expected goal differential (1.71) and points won above expected (2.20).
