CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte Independence announced the additions of 24-year-old Bolivian midfielder Paolo Alcocer and 31-year-old Jamaican goalkeeper Amal Knight as the 2025 USL League One regular season winds down.
Alcocer gained professional experience in the Bolivian top flight, where he last played for FC Universitario de Vinto in the Bolivian Primera División. Across Primera División, CONMEBOL Sudamericana and Copa Bolivia play between 2024-25, the midfielder totaled 24 appearances with Universitario de Vinto. Alcocer also played for three other Primera División sides, appearing for Club Bolívar (2019-21), Club Aurora (2021-22) and CD Palmaflor del Trópico (2023).
Born in Ansbach, Germany, Alcocer was raised in the United States and grew up in Savannah, Ga. Before turning professional in 2019, Alcocer developed with the South Georgia Tormenta FC Academy, Orlando City SC Academy, Charlotte Soccer Academy and Weston FC Academy.
Alcocer holds dual citizenship in Bolivia and the United States. He represented Bolivia at the youth international level, making a number of appearances for La Verde's U-15, U-17 and U-20 national teams.
"We are delighted to welcome Paolo back to Charlotte and to have him join our roster," shared Charlotte Independence Head Coach Mike Jeffries. "Paolo is a strong technical player with the ability to fill several positions. With his experience in first division Bolivia, he brings savvy and a strong technical element to the game. His composure on the ball and ability to play out of pressure fit well with our style of play. I look forward to seeing his contributions with us."
Knight brings veteran experience to the Jacks' goalkeeper unit, having made 53 appearances for Lexington SC in USL League One and USL Jägermeister Cup play between 2023-24. He finished the year third in USL League One in total saves (73) and recorded four clean sheets, showcasing his reliability and shot-stopping ability. Including his 2020 campaign with former League One side FC Tucson, Knight is seventh in league history with 178 saves.
The St. Andrew, Jamaica native most recently played for Nepal Super League side FC Chitwan earlier this year. Knight also has Jamaica Premier League experience with University of the West Indies FC (2013-19), Arnett Gardens FC (2021) and Harbour View FC (2022). In 2020, Knight signed with former USL Championship side San Diego Loyal SC. While he did not see the pitch with San Diego, Knight made seven appearances for Tucson on loan.
Knight earned a scholarship to the University of the West Indies and played for UWI FC from 2013-19. Making 94 appearances, he was part of the club's first-ever promotion to the Jamaica Premier League following the 2014-15 season.
On the international stage, Knight made his debut for Jamaica in 2018 in an international friendly against South Korea. In total, Knight has appeared for the Reggae Boyz on 13 occasions across Concacaf Nations League and friendly play.
"We are excited to sign Amal Knight for the remainder of the season," shared Jeffries. "He brings experience internationally and in the USL system; most importantly, he is a quality goalkeeper and a positive locker room individual. He showcased his shot-stopping ability and goalkeeping prowess quite enough playing against us for Lexington. It definitely will be good to have him on our side."
