Charlotte's Jon Bakero named Player of the Week with record-matching performance

TAMPA, Fla. – USL League One today announced the Team of the Week for Week 21/22 of the 2025 regular season, with Charlotte Independence midfielder Jon Bakero named Player of the Week presented by Konami eFootball with four assists through two matches.

The 2017 MAC Hermann Trophy winner started his week with one assist in a 2-2 draw in Knoxville on Wednesday before providing a trio of assists in Charlotte's 3-3 draw against Texoma on Saturday. Matching an all-time league record, Bakero's three-assist outburst on Saturday marked the sixth such occurrence in League One history and the first since July 2023.

"It's been good," Bakero said after his three-assist performance against Texoma. "I've been really finding my feet and I'm feeling really comfortable in the system that we're playing, and the confidence the coach has given me feels good. I'm happy to help the team with assists, with whatever I can, but it doesn't really matter if we can't get the win. I think that's really the frustrating part tonight."

GK - Bernd Schipmann, Forward Madison FC: Schipmann was the only goalkeeper to keep multiple clean sheets across Week 21 and Week 22, helping Madison shut out South Georgia and Antelope Valley. The former Philippines international tallied 18 recoveries, 13 completed long passes, four saves, three clearances, and led all goalkeepers in goals conceded below expected (-1.44).

D - Fabrice Ngah, Charlotte Independence: Enjoying the most productive season of his professional career, Ngah scored the fifth goal of the season in a 3-3 draw against Texoma. Through a pair of matches, the 24-year-old registered 14 duels won, an 85% passing accuracy rate, eight clearances, five completed long passes, three fouls won, three recoveries and two chances created.

Across 180 minutes of undefeated play, the veteran defender tallied 16 clearances, won 15 duels, connected on 14 long passes, completed 89% of his passes and recorded five recoveries.
