CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte Independence today announced the signing of 30-year-old South African forward Tumi Moshobane. Moshobane joins the club after appearing in 16 matches across all competitions this season with USL Championship side El Paso Locomotive FC.

A dynamic and creative playmaker, Moshobane has been a consistent offensive threat throughout his career in the USL Championship and USL League One. Known for his pace, vision and ability to find the back of the net, the South African winger bolsters an already talented Independence front line.

"Adding Tumi provides us another dynamic attacking option," shared Charlotte Independence head coach Mike Jeffries. "Tumi is a player who can create off the dribble, find a dangerous pass in the final third and finish opportunities. His ability to play any role in the front four and his success in both Championship and League One make him a valuable addition to our squad. In addition, Tumi has familiarity with Charlotte, and with his character and work ethic, Tumi will fit in well with the group."

The 30-year-old attacker was born in Soweto, South Africa and developed in the Kaizer Chiefs FC youth system before playing collegiately in the United States with NJCAA's Kankakee Community College and NAIA's Olivet Nazarene University, earning honorable mentions on the 2017 and 2018 NAIA Men's Soccer All-America team with the latter.

After playing with NPSL side Lansing United in 2017 and USL League Two's Charlotte Eagles in 2018, Moshobane began his professional career with former USL League One side Lansing Ignite FC in 2019, earning All-League First Team honors after scoring 10 goals and providing four assists in 24 matches.

From 2020 to 2025, Moshobane played in the USL Championship with San Diego Loyal SC (2020-23) and El Paso Locomotive FC (2024-25). Moshobane made the USL Championship Playoffs with San Diego in each of his three seasons with the club, recording 25 goals and 17 assists across all competitions. After a season and a half in El Paso, the South African totaled one goal and three assists across 50 appearances in all competitions.

"I'm proud to join the Charlotte Independence, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to represent this club. I'm here to give my all and help bring a championship to this city," shared Moshobane.
