Texoma’s on a heater with four wins in the last five, but there are warning signs as to its sustainability

It’s been just over a month since Texoma FC won its first game in club history.

Since then? It’s been hard to contain Los Pájaros.

Saturday night’s thrilling 3-2 victory against the Charlotte Independence on Solomon Asanté’s stoppage-time winner extended the club’s undefeated streak to six games, solidly above the postseason line.

It would have been hard to imagine given the start to the season Head Coach Adrian Forbes’ side had. It took five games for the side to earn its first point, and eight to take its first victory.

Since that first win against Union Omaha on May 17, however, no team has earned more points – not even current league-leader Spokane Velocity, which has 11 points compared to Texoma’s 13 in the past five games.

There’s reason for caution, though. As cold as Texoma was in front of goal early in the season, it’s extraordinarily hot right now. The club’s shot conversion rate in the past five contests is at 34.5 percent – league average for the season is 16.3 percent.

That’s delivered overperformance in front of net, with Texoma’s 10 goals coming off 4.59 Expected Goals, a mark that ranks third-lowest in the league over its past five games.

Unless the underlying numbers ramp up, we could expect a cooldown soon. How Texoma responds to that change could end up defining its inaugural season.

Last Week: 3		 Pedro Hernandez has scored in five consecutive league games, but the Red Wolves let their trip to Greenville get away from them badly to end their undefeated streak.

Last Week: 7		 Naples still looks comfortable in third place in the standings after a bye week. This week’s two-game road trip is a chance to make a move.

Last Week: 10		 Much-needed victory for Triumph against the Red Wolves, and great to see U.S. youth international Zeke Soto get on the board. Maybe those new third kits can bring a change of fortune?

Last Week: 9		 It’s not been a vintage season for Los Buhos so far. If they win against the Kickers on Wednesday night, though, they’ll be above the playoff line.

Last Week: 14		 Did Westchester pull off the old reverse jinx and succeed? Conceding early and coming back to defeat Forward Madison last Wednesday was just what this side needed.

Last Week: 11		 The Flamingos hadn’t lost when scoring first since September, 2023, a run spanning 17 games, prior to Wednesday night. That’s just how it’s going right now.

Last Week: 12		 Eight games without a win for the Kickers after their defeat at home to Spokane Velocity. They’re still somehow above the playoff line, but for how much longer?
14 South Georgia Tormenta FC

Week 17: vs NAP; vs CHS		 1
Last Week: 13		 Tormenta got out-thought and outplayed by Knoxville. That’s six consecutive games without a victory and nemesis MD Myers and the Battery up next in the USL Jägermeister Cup.
