Garcia becomes fourth goalkeeper to receive award after leading expansion side to first victories

TAMPA, Fla. – USL League One today announced that Texoma FC goalkeeper Javier Garcia has been voted the USL League One Player of the Month presented by Konami eFootball after leading the expansion side to its first two victories in club history.

Through his three League One appearances in May, which featured a draw against AV ALTA FC and victories against Union Omaha and Greenville Triumph SC, Garcia posted two clean sheets and 12 saves at a save percentage of 92.1% while allowing only one goal and maintaining a goals prevented mark of -1.51.

Garcia made his League One debut on May 11, handing fellow expansion side AV ALTA FC its first shutout at Lancaster Municipal Stadium in a scoreless draw. The McAllen, Texas native closed out the month with a pair of special performances in home victories against League One heavyweights, Union Omaha and Greenville Triumph SC, helping Los Pájaros to their first wins in club history.

Garcia is the fourth goalkeeper in USL League One history to be named Player of the Month, joining Lansing's Stefan Cleveland in June 2019, Greenville's Dallas Jaye in August 2019 and Northern Colorado's Lalo Delgado in October 2024.

"I'm very honored to have been chosen as the May Player of the Month," Garcia said. "I'm grateful to God and everyone who continues to support me. Getting my first start in May allowed me to make an impact on the team and help us get results, which in turn led us to our first clean sheet against AV ALTA FC and first win against Union Omaha, achievements I'm very proud of.

"A lot of my motivation and drive for this season contributes to my desire to showcase my abilities and what I can do to help the team succeed. In previous years in my career, I was never given the opportunity to showcase my skills. Nevertheless, I am grateful to my teammates who have pushed and motivated me to perform since I have been in goal, giving me a sense of family and security. I'm determined to continue working hard and staying hungry as I continue to grow as a player and as a person. I can't wait to see what else we can accomplish this season."

Javier Garcia joined Texoma after beginning his professional career in the USL Championship with Rio Grande Valley FC (2021-22) and El Paso Locomotive FC (2023-24). Prior to the 2025 campaign, the 27-year-old totaled nine appearances and three clean sheets across his four-year professional career. Garcia developed in the RGV FC Toros Academy and played collegiately at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.

Garcia received 53% of a weighted poll that included the USL League One Technical Committee and an online fan vote held at USLLeagueOne.com. Westchester SC forward Juan Carlos Obregón, Jr. finished second on 35% with five goals in five appearances, while Charlotte Independence forward Souaibou Marou finished third on 10% with a perfect hat trick and five total goals through five appearances.
