There’s no question at this point that Spokane Velocity FC has taken a major step forward from its inaugural campaign in USL League One.
After its 3-1 victory on Sunday evening against Westchester SC, the side moved into the top spot in the league standings with one-quarter of the campaign complete. At the same time, it boasted the best Expected Goals mark in the league (13.26xG) and an Expected Goal Differential of +6.44xGD, comfortably ahead of its closest rivals FC Naples (+3.81) and One Knoxville (+3.86) for first place.
Hand-in-hand with Velocity’s upward progression has been the same trajectory for full back Pierre Reedy, whose first goal in League One highlighted a standout display on Sunday that also saw him bag his second and third assists of the season.
After limited action throughout most of the club’s inaugural season, the 27-year-old is in the middle of a breakout campaign that’s already seen him log more assists and Big Chances Created (4) than he did a year ago, when he logged only 603 minutes in seven League One appearances.
“I just had a lot of pressure relieved after that goal, because it felt like I was trying so hard to finally get one,” Reedy said after the game of his late first-half finish that pulled the side level against Westchester. “Not the prettiest goal, but I got it over the line – and I was happy, got us back in the game.”
Spokane’s run to the League One Final a season ago was the sort that happens when things fall together at the right moment. Those aren’t always predictors of future success – see Phoenix Rising’s travails in the Championship since its magical run to the title in 2023 – but for Velocity it’s seemed a portent of what was ahead.
With returning standouts like Luis Gil still in place and the likes of Reedy stepping up, Velocity is on course for a sustained challenge this season.
Here’s where things stand this week.

Spokane Velocity FC (4-1-2) Week 10: @ TRM |
![]() Last Week: 3 |
Velocity turned an early deficit into a decisive victory in front of its home fans against Westchester. That’s four wins in a row across all competitions overall where the side has scored 11 goals. |
2 | ![]() |
One Knoxville SC (3-0-2) Week 10: vs. MAD |
![]() Last Week: 1 |
All in all, Knoxville did well to come out of Portland with its undefeated record intact. Stuart Ritchie continues to impress on the left side as he builds on a good 2024 campaign |
3 | ![]() |
FC Naples (4-1-2) Week 10: --- |
![]() Last Week: 2 |
Naples’ travel challenges saw its trip to AV ALTA postponed to the end of June. A shame, really, we were looking forward to the meeting of the expansion sides. |
4 | ![]() |
Charlotte Independence (3-1-2) Week 10: @ WES |
![]() Last Week: 4 |
The Independence were ultimately too powerful for Texoma in the final third. That’s the fifth time they’ve gone over 3.00 Expected Goals since joining League One. |
5 | ![]() |
Richmond Kickers (3-3-2) Week 10: @ CHA |
![]() Last Week: 6 |
It’s now consecutive league games the Kickers have delivered a high-scoring draw, the attack is coming on well but they’re going to have to tighten up defensively. |
6 | ![]() |
AV ALTA FC (2-3-0) Week 10: vs. TXO |
![]() Last Week: 5 |
Alta gave Las Vegas Lights a test in the USL Jagermeister Cup in midweek, but that high defensive line ended up costing them. Not the way you want to end up losing a third game in a row. |
7 | ![]() |
Portland Hearts of Pine (0-1-3) Week 10: @ OMA |
![]() Last Week: 11 |
Hearts of Pine rose to the moment in front of a packed house at Fitzpatrick Stadium. If they keep playing that well, there are going to be wins following in short order. |
8 | ![]() |
South Georgia Tormenta FC (2-3-1) Week 10: vs. SPK |
![]() Last Week: 8 |
Tormenta had the weekend off, but get a great test this weekend as Velocity comes to visit. There have been some good results this season, but they need to step up here. |
9 | ![]() |
Westchester SC (1-2-2) Week 10: vs. CLT |
![]() Last Week: 7 |
Westchester’s defense has gotten beat up the last two weeks to the point where it’s attack can’t keep out. Need to address that ahead of a key home game against Charlotte. |
10 | ![]() |
Union Omaha (1-2-1) Week 10: vs. POR |
![]() Last Week: 9 |
Los Buhos look solid defensively, but the attack is still a work in progress after failing to hit the target in Madison. That’s the first time that’s happened in League One in club history. |
11 | ![]() |
Greenville Triumph SC (2-3-2) Week 10: --- |
![]() Last Week: 12 |
Triumph couldn’t break its winless streak in Richmond, but it at least fought back twice to earn a point in the end. They’ll keep working during the bye week ahead. |
12 | ![]() |
Chattanooga Red Wolves SC (1-1-3) Week 10: vs. RIC |
![]() Last Week: 10 |
The Red Wolves get the next biggest game in their history against Nashville SC on Tuesday night in the Open Cup. It’s going to be a big test, but who knows what might happen? |
13 | ![]() |
Texoma FC (0-4-1) Week 10: @ AV |
![]() Last Week: 13 |
Texoma almost earned a second consecutive point thanks to Philip Spengler’s two-goal outing but couldn’t hold off the Independence. Still, feels like more progress. |
14 | ![]() |
Forward Madison FC (1-1-2) Week 10: @ KNX |
![]() Last Week: 14 |
The Flamingos haven’t scored multiple goals in a game since the end of March, which is also the last time the side won. That’s not a coincidence. |
