Colombian veteran Anuar Peláez likely wasn’t expecting to see a lot of action as Spokane Velocity FC headed to face Greenville Triumph SC on March 29.

He had rotated out of the lineup as Jamaican veteran Neco Brett drafted in for his first league start for his new club, having previously been one of the USL Championship’s all-time leading scorers.

When Brett went down to injury after only 17 minutes, however, Peláez seized his opportunity to contribute to the biggest win in Velocity’s history.

Part of Velocity’s inaugural season in 2024, the 32-year-old notched a pair of second-half goals to power Spokane to a 4-0 victory at Paladin Stadium. He notched his first league goal of the season in the 73rd minute, putting away a close-range finish off a counterattack. Nine minutes later he bagged a second, again being in the right place at the right time to finish.

With his brace, Peláez equaled his goal total from the 2024 season, and is now set to shoot higher for a Spokane side aiming to go one better than its appearance in the USL League One Final a year ago.
