TAMPA, Fla. – USL League One today announced that FC Naples' Matt Poland has been named the USL League One Coach of the Month for March.
In his first month as a professional head coach, the 33-year-old led the expansion side to the top of the table with an unbeaten 2-0-2 record. Featuring victories against Forward Madison FC and Spokane Velocity FC, plus draws against Chattanooga Red Wolves SC and Portland Hearts of Pine, Naples finished the month with a league-leading three clean sheets and a +3 goal differential, with the latter matching the league lead on the month.
Poland - the second-youngest Coach of the Month in league history behind Nate Miller (LAN, 2019) - joins Jay Mims (OMA, 2020) and Eric Quill (NTX, 2019) as the only first-year professional head coaches to start a League One season with an unbeaten streak of four matches or more in league play.
"I'm grateful to receive Coach of the Month [honors], but this recognition is really a reflection of the dedication and effort of my staff and players," Poland said. "Their commitment to excellence and teamwork is what drives our success, and I'm fortunate to be part of such a talented and hard-working group."
Prior to becoming FC Naples' inaugural head coach, Poland led NPSL side Naples United FC and later Midwest Premier League club Chicago House AC. Poland led House to back-to-back U.S. Open Cup appearances, highlighted by a 2023 run to the Third Round, which featured a historic comeback victory against League One side Forward Madison FC - the largest by a pre-professional club since 1995.
Poland was selected as League One's Coach of the Month by the USL League One Technical Committee.
