CHICAGO – USL League One's nine remaining clubs in the 2025 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup learned their draw for the Third Round on Thursday, with each League One side facing USL Championship opposition and five hosting. The batch of nine League One clubs participating in the Third Round sets a new league record, surpassing the previous record of eight clubs in 2022 and 2024.
In Group A, South Georgia Tormenta FC will face coastal foe Charleston Battery for the fourth time, while the Charlotte Independence will face North Carolina FC in the 20th all-time Dogwood Derby - the first since the 2023 USL League One Final and a preview of the first 2025 USL Jägermeister Cup match.
For Group B, Westchester SC will face a USL Championship opponent for the first time in club history as the newcomers travel to Detroit City FC, and Portland Hearts of Pine will host New England rival and reigning USL Championship Eastern Conference champion Rhode Island FC in the pair's first competitive meeting.
In another USL Jägermeister Cup appetizer, FC Naples will host local foe, the Tampa Bay Rowdies, in Group D action. In Group F, a pair of League One sides will seek their first-ever victories against USL Championship opposition, as Chattanooga Red Wolves SC travels to face Las Vegas Lights FC, and AV ALTA FC will welcome Orange County SC to town.
Group H features both the defending USL Championship and USL League One champions, as One Knoxville SC heads to Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC's Weidner Field, and Union Omaha looks to remain perfect against USL Championship opposition as the Owls welcome San Antonio FC to Nebraska in the latter's first meeting with a League One opponent.
The 16 Second Round winners have been matched up against the 16 highest-ranked teams from the USL Championship in the Third Round. USL Championship Teams were seeded by conference, with the top eight clubs in each conference entering in the Third Round. Third Round winners will square off against the teams of Major League Soccer (MLS). There will be 16 MLS teams competing in the 2025 U.S. Open Cup, and they will all enter the competition in the Round of 32.

The pairings for the Round of 32 will be a new draw conducted on April 17 which will determine matches for both the Round of 32 and Round of 16.
