Greenville's Leo Castro earns Player of the Week honor with brace, assist

TAMPA, Fla. – USL League One today announced the Team of the Week for Week 2 of the 2025 regular season with Greenville Triumph SC forward Leo Castro named Player of the Week presented by Konami eFootball with a brace and an assist in a big win against Union Omaha.

In front of minority owner Ronaldinho, Leo Castro put on a show and helped Greenville dismantle the defending champion Owls with a special two-goal, one-assist performance. The former CAF Champions League winner constructed the first three-goal-contribution match of his 17-year professional career since a two-goal, one-assist performance for Kaizer Chiefs in December 2019.

"The day was definitely one of the highlights of this club's history," said Greenville Head Coach Rick Wright. "You could feel the excitement in the air today, and it translated to a great performance on the field. The players rose to the occasion and we had a great team performance on both ends of the field. We grew up a lot tonight, and now we just need to get healthy and keep momentum going."

Seven of the 10 teams in action in Week 2 placed multiple players across either the Team of the Week or Team of the Week bench. Charlotte, Greenville, Naples and Spokane were the lone teams to earn multiple starting positions on the Team of the Week after each side picked up points.

GK - Matt Levy, Charlotte Independence: Levy kicked off his first full season as a starter in Charlotte with a five-save outing that resulted in a shutout victory for the Jacks against Richmond. Levy completed 82% of his passes, totaled 11 recoveries and conceded 1.20 goals fewer than expected, per American Soccer Analysis.

D - Camron Miller, Spokane Velocity FC: Following a successful debut professional season in Spokane a season ago, Miller knocked in Velocity FC's first goal of the season off of a Derek Waldeck corner. The 25-year-old added 17 clearances, nine duels won, four recoveries, two blocks and two interceptions. Per American Soccer Analysis, Miller led all defenders with a 0.37 goals-added mark.

D - Maxi Schenfeld, Richmond Kickers: In the second match of his second season with Richmond, Schenfeld registered 10 recoveries, six duels won, three tackles won, two chances created, an 89% passing accuracy rate and a league-best four completed crosses in the Kickers' 1-0 loss in Charlotte.

D - Derek Waldeck, Spokane Velocity FC: Waldeck kicked off his sixth League One season with an assist and forced a Knoxville own goal off of a corner kick. The 27-year-old also tallied four duels won, two recoveries, two fouls won and a 73% passing accuracy rate. 

M - Luis Álvarez, Charlotte Independence: Back for his third season in Charlotte, Álvarez assisted Anton Sorenson's match-winner in the 50th minute and went on to total eight duels won, six completed long passes, four recoveries, three accurate crosses, three tackles won and a league-leading four chances created.

M - Angelo Kelly-Rosales, One Knoxville SC: Kelly-Rosales capped off Knoxville's two-goal comeback with a tying goal in second-half stoppage time. The 32-year-old also contributed with an 88% passing accuracy rate, five duels won, three recoveries, two tackles won and two fouls won.

M - Jayden Onen, FC Naples: Onen assisted the winning goal against his former side over the weekend, helping Naples to a 2-0 victory against the visiting 'Mingos. In his second match with the club, the former Madison and Lexington man also provided four duels won and two completed dribbles.

M - Ben Zakowski, Greenville Triumph SC: Zakowski registered a goal and an assist in the same match for the first time in his young professional career, helping Greenville to a big 3-0 victory against rival Omaha on Wednesday. The 24-year-old totaled five recoveries, five duels won, three clearances, two completed crosses and an 80% passing accuracy rate.

F - Yaniv Bazini, South Georgia Tormenta FC: Fresh off an NCAA national championship with Vermont, the former Catamount tallied his first professional goal and first professional brace in a 2-0 victory against newcomers AV ALTA FC. The 25-year-old also added six duels won and four recoveries. Per American Soccer Analysis, Bazini led all forwards with a 0.41 goals-added mark.

F - Leo Castro, Greenville Triumph SC: The decorated Colombian veteran chipped in a long-rage winner against rival Omaha before adding an additional goal an assist in Greenville's second match of the season. Castro finished with five duels won, three shots on target, two recoveries and two fouls won.

F - Karsen Henderlong, FC Naples: In just his seventh professional match, Henderlong registered his first professional goal and brace in Naples' 2-0 win against Madison. Henderlong also recorded seven duels won, five recoveries, two tackles won and a 73% passing accuracy rate.

Coach - Rick Wright, Greenville Triumph SC: The second-year coach defeated Omaha for the first time and helped Triumph SC become the first team to defeat a defending league champion in its season opener. According to American Soccer Analysis, Wright's side accrued the greatest goal differential above expected goal differential (2.89) and second-most points won above expected (1.54).
