The First Round of the 2025 U.S. Open Cup is here, and USL League One will field a record 14 clubs in its fifth participation in the historic tournament. From matchups with USL League Two, NPSL and UPSL powers to a pair of clubs kicking off their first competitive match in club history, we're highlighting the most intriguing aspects of all 14 First Round matchups.

All matches will be streamed live on U.S. Soccer's YouTube channel.

Tuesday, March 18

Stadium IconGreenwood Field; Asheville, N.C.

Following its strong start to league play last week, Greenville will aim to advance beyond the First Round of the U.S. Open Cup for the fifth time in as many tries. Table-topping Triumph SC will head an hour north to face USL League Two power Asheville City SC, a side that’s won the South Central Division in each of the last two seasons.

Stadium IconPremier Sports Campus; Lakewood Ranch, Fla.

The first official meeting in what should become an intriguing League One rivalry, Naples will look to remain unbeaten across all competitions as the expansion side faces USL League Two side Sarasota Paradise. Like Naples, the Paradise – who finished as South Florida Division champions a season ago – are also participating in the U.S. Open Cup for the first time in club history.

The 2023 USL League Two champions and back-to-back Northwest Division champions will welcome Spokane to Seattle for the second consecutive season, hoping to avenge its stoppage-time loss to Velocity FC in last season’s U.S. Open Cup. The Bridges have added former United States Men’s National Team midfielder Kelyn Rowe to its roster, but Spokane’s high-quality squad should be able to handle the League Two outfit.

FC Motown

7:30 p.m. ET
Stadium IconMSU Soccer Park at Pittser Field; Montclair, N.J.

Westchester SC will make the 30-mile trek east to face 2022 NPSL champion FC Motown in Montclair, N.J. WSC is seeking its first victory in club history after posting a 1-1 draw against Greenville in the pair’s league opener two weeks ago.

Stadium IconLancaster Municipal Stadium; Lancaster, Calif.

The newcomers are seeking their first victory in club history after falling to South Georgia in their league debut over the weekend. AV ALTA FC will need to take down 2022 USL League Two champions Ventura County Fusion in the former’s first match at the renovated Lancaster Municipal Stadium and first against in-state opposition.

Duluth FC

Stadium IconBreese Stevens Field: Madison, Wis.

A season after a Christian Chaney brace powered Madison to victory against Duluth FC, Madison will again welcome the NPSL side to Breese Stevens Field for a First Round U.S. Open Cup clash. The BlueGreens – who won the Midwest Region in 2024 – and the ‘Mingos – who fell just short of winning a trophy a season ago – will both be seeking their first victory of the year.

Stadium IconMitchel Athletic Complex; Uniondale, N.Y.

The Long Island Rough Riders – the former professional side and current USL League Two power – have topped the Metropolitan Division in three of the last four seasons. The Rough Riders are hosting professional opposition for the first time since the 2015 U.S. Open Cup and will hope to upend a Charlotte side making its ninth tournament appearance in as many seasons.

Virginia Dream FC

Stadium IconCity Stadium; Richmond, Va.

Led by former United States Men’s National Team star and current Miami FC goalkeeper Bill Hamid, Virginia Dream FC qualified for the U.S. Open Cup for the first time in its two-year history via local qualifiers back in November. Now, the new-look squad will face the former U.S. Open Cup champion Richmond Kickers in the decorated club’s first match of the season at City Stadium.

Appalachian FC

Stadium IconTed Mackorell Soccer Complex; Boone, N.C.

After finishing in the top three of the NPSL’s Southeast Conference in all four seasons of its existence, Appalachian FC is back in the U.S. Open Cup for the second time in club history. Both Appalachian and Knoxville are seeking their second-ever U.S. Open Cup victory after downing USL League Two opposition in 2023 and 2024, respectively.

6:30 p.m. ET
Stadium IconFranklin Athletic Complex; Lewiston, Maine

Portland Hearts of Pine are set for their first competitive match in club history as they take on Local Qualifier CD Faialense in Lewiston, Maine. Only an hour north of Portland, Hearts will treat the Lewiston community to Maine soccer history as the state’s first professional soccer club officially gets going.

FORO SC
8 p.m. ET
Stadium IconBearcat Stadium; Sherman, Texas

Like Hearts, fellow expansion side Texoma FC is set for its first-ever match in official competition, welcoming in 2021 Fall UPSL champions and 2025 UPSL Texas Regional Cup winners FORO SC. The intra-state U.S. Open Cup clash should offer a good test for TFC ahead of its League One home opener on Saturday.

Stadium IconStermole Soccer Stadium; Golden, Colo.

USL League Two’s Flatirons FC is set for its U.S. Open Cup debut, and the reigning Mountain Division champions will host defending League One title-winners Union Omaha. The Owls – who have never lost their opening U.S. Open Cup match – boast a 3-0-0 record and +7 goal differential against USL League Two sides in official competition.

New Jersey Alliance FC

Stadium IconLubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium; Newark, N.J.

The Red Wolves are set to face UPSL opposition for the second consecutive U.S. Open Cup and will travel to New Jersey for the first time in club history to take on New Jersey Alliance FC. NJAFC advanced to the Semifinals of the UPSL Playoffs a season ago and is aiming to knock off a professional opponent for the first time in club history.

Harbor City FC

Stadium IconTormenta Stadium; Statesboro, Ga.

Melbourne, Fla.-based UPSL side Harbor City FC is making its U.S. Open Cup debut, traveling to Statesboro, Ga. to face South Georgia Tormenta FC. Making their sixth Open Cup appearance, the Ibises will look to remain perfect against amateur opposition in tournament play.
