Greenville Triumph SC signs D.J. Benton, Connor Evans

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Greenville Triumph SC today announced a pair of additions in defender Devin "D.J." Benton and midfielder Connor Evans, pending league and federation approval.

Connor Evans joins on his first professional contract after playing collegiately at Stanford University (2020-23) and the University of Portland (2024). Prior to his time in college, Evans developed with the Portland Timbers Academy from 2015-20.

The 22-year-old midfielder helped the Cardinal claim a Pac-12 title in the 2020-21 season and recorded five goal contributions through 43 appearances in Stanford, Calif. Evans returned to his native Portland, Ore. in 2024 and spent one season with the Pilots. He scored three goals and added four assists in 16 appearances with Portland.

D.J. Benton will kick off his fifth professional season with his fifth different USL League One club. The 2023 league champion has represented North Texas SC (2021), Chattanooga Red Wolves SC (2022), North Carolina FC (2023) and One Knoxville SC (2024). Benton is one of nine players in league history to participate in two USL League One Finals.

The 25-year-old defender was born in Birmingham, Ala. where he played collegiately for the University of Alabama at Birmingham for two and a half years. Before his time with the Blazers, Benton was a member of the Atlanta United Academy in 2017, and later captained his team for the Houston Dynamo Academy in 2018. Benton signed his first professional contract with North Texas in August 2021.
