PAPILLION, Neb. – Union Omaha today announced the signing of 34-year-old defender Brent Kallman, pending league and federation approval. The Omaha, Neb. native returns after spending the last eight seasons in Major League Soccer.
After moving away from Omaha at a young age, Kallman returned to play four years of college soccer at Creighton University, teaming up with fellow Owl Dion Acoff. He became a stalwart for the Blue Jays after injuries elsewhere afforded him the opportunity for consistent playing time as a sophomore. From there, he would help lead Creighton to back-to-back NCAA College Cup appearances in 2011 and 2012.
After a brief stint with Des Moines Menace in USL League Two, Kallman flitted back up north to sign for Minnesota United FC, then a member of the second-division NASL. He made 48 appearances with the Loons across all competitions between 2013-16 before remaining with the club as it transitioned to MLS in 2017. From 2017-23, Kallman totaled 123 appearances across all competitions for MNUFC, appearing in MLS, U.S. Open Cup, MLS is Back and MLS Cup Playoffs action for the side.
Kallman spent last season with Nashville SC, recording 15 appearances across Concacaf Champions Cup, MLS and Leagues Cup play. Aside from one season in Nashville and a brief, five-match loan stint with USL Championship side El Paso Locomotive FC in 2020, the defender spent his entire professional career in Minnesota.
"Brent brings a tremendous amount of leadership and experience to our locker room, so I'm delighted we've been able to bring him back home to Omaha," said Omaha Head Coach Dominic Casciato.
"It's a privilege to represent this city as a member of Union Omaha," said Kallman. "The club has enjoyed a lot of success since its inception, so I'll give my best to meet that standard and push for more."
