LANCASTER, Calif. - AV ALTA FC today announced the signing of 26-year-old winger Walmer Martínez, pending league and federation approval. The former El Salvador international has made over 100 USL Championship appearances since his professional debut in 2021.
A native of Santa Cruz, Calif., Martínez played collegiately at CCCAA school Cabrillo College (2016-17) before playing for NCAA Division II school California State University, Monterey Bay (2018-19). Martínez also spent time in USL League Two with Santa Cruz Breakers FC (2018-19), Des Moines Menace (2019) and Project 51O (2020).
Martínez earned his first professional contract with USL Championship Hartford Athletic after excelling at the club's Invitational Combine in 2021. He made 19 appearances with the club and scored two goals and recorded one assist.
The winger returned to the Monterey Bay region in 2022, becoming Monterey Bay FC's first-ever signing ahead of its inaugural USL Championship campaign. Between 2022-24, Martínez totaled six goal contributions in 89 appearances for MBFC across all competitions.
Between June 2021 and November 2023, Martínez made 23 appearances for the El Salvador national team across FIFA World Cup qualification, Concacaf Gold Cup, Concacaf Nations League and international friendly play. In 2021, Martínez recorded two goals and one assist for La Selecta.
