RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond Kickers today announced the return of defender Maxi Schenfeld, pending league and federation approval, after signing a new contract with the club.

"We are happy that Maxi has re-signed with us here in Richmond," Kickers Chief Sporting Officer and Head Coach Darren Sawatzky said. "His locker room demeanor and fatherly fire were welcome additions to our club. His ability to play on the left side for us, whether defending near goal or blazing up the wing to deliver a cross, gives us options with a great veteran player. We see him building on a great year and helping the group chase wins and extending our season."

Schenfeld became a stalwart on the left flank for the Kickers in his first season with the team. Snagging a bicycle-kick goal to make his presence known in the first leg of the 2024 Henny Derby, Schenfeld quickly became the second-most consistently appearing player for the Roos. Behind only his right-flank counterpart, Simon Fitch, Schenfeld made 20 starts across 22 appearances, playing for 1791 minutes of 2024's 23 regular season matches.

Schenfeld also logged an assist on the season in addition to 44 clearances, six blocks and 20 interceptions. He won 74% of his tackles, 55% of his duels and 60% of his aerial duels.

"I'm very happy to be back in Richmond for 2025," Schenfeld said. "I'm preparing to have a great year and represent the club the best way possible!"

Schenfeld joined the Kickers after featuring for former USL League One sides Central Valley Fuego FC (2022) and FC Tucson (2021). The Ovalle, Chile native played 1,352 minutes across 25 matches during Fuego FC's inaugural season. He scored two goals, assisted two more, and created 14 chances.

In his time with FC Tucson, Schenfeld was a member of the backline that helped push the side to the USL League One Playoffs Semifinals. He played 2,244 minutes across 26 matches while leading the team in interceptions with 53. He won 64% of his tackles, over 55% of his total duels and 51% of his aerial duels.

On the offensive side, he created 16 chances and scored one goal, an equalizer that sparked a comeback victory and a playoff berth. While at Tucson, Schenfeld played with current Kickers defender Dakota Barnathan and the two quickly returned to rhythm in 2024 for Richmond.
