RICHMOND, Va. — The Richmond Kickers today announced they have signed 2024 USL League One All-League Second Team defender Simon Fitch to a new contract, pending league and federation approval.

Fitch, a local fan favorite, has become a machine on the pitch with his consistency and growth. The Goochland County, Va. native is synonymous with the Richmond Kickers, having played up through his youth and college soccer locally, then plying his trade now as the right back in red for the City Stadium faithful.

"After making the All-League team this past season, Simon was a priority to get back in the red kit here at City Stadium," Richmond Chief Sporting Officer and Head Coach Darren Sawatzky said. "His drive and consistent play has improved each year he has played for us and you are not going to find a player that bleeds this club more than Simon. We are excited that he and his wife Sue will continue to be the Virginia power couple here playing professional soccer."

Fitch has become a staple on the pitch for his hometown club over the last three years, first signing with the Kickers for his debut professional season in 2022 which saw him start 11 of 21 league matches and log 1,308 minutes on the pitch.

From there, Fitch signed a two-year contract and started for the side every time the Kickers took the pitch in 2023 and 2024. In 2024, he saw the pitch for all 2,070 minutes of the regular season and played all but one half of the 2023 regular season, logging 2,838 minutes.

Fitch has made himself an increasingly reliable outside back, with 45 clearances, 7 blocks and 14 interceptions in the 2024 season. He has also defined his contributions on the attacking side of the ball, with three goals and nine assists across the past two seasons. Fitch has amassed several USL League One Team of the Week appearances and, to close out the 2024 season, earned All-League Second Team Honors.

"I'm very excited to be back for 2025," Fitch said. "I felt like we started to find our identity during the final stretch of last season, and I'm hopeful that we can build on that moving forward. As always, I’ve been working hard over the break so I can contribute as much as possible to this team and deliver for our fans."

Growing up as a Kickers fan, Fitch has lived and breathed the Richmond soccer scene since he was a kid, even featuring for the Kickers first team as a youth player in an exhibition against Swansea City AFC in 2017. He went on to play for the Virginia Commonwealth University men's soccer team from 2018-21 where he started every match in his sophomore, junior and senior seasons.
