STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC today announced the signing of 2023 USL League One Goalkeeper of the Year Austin Pack, pending league and federation approval.
Pack spent the past three USL League One seasons with the Charlotte Independence in his second stint with the club. Pack helped the Jacks to the 2023 USL League One Final, earning Goalkeeper of the Year and All-League First Team honors in the process.
Through his three seasons in Charlotte, Pack amassed 202 saves, 14 clean sheets and a 73.36% save percentage across only 53 League One regular season matches. Pack is one of five goalkeepers in league history to tally 200 or more saves, and among goalkeepers who have made 50 or more appearances, Pack's 73.36% save percentage is the highest in league history.
With 116 saves in 2023, Pack set a USL League One regular season record for saves in a single season, surpassing the previous record of 105. Pack also tied the record for most saves in a single playoff match with seven in the semifinal against Union Omaha.
2024 marked Pack's fifth season with the Jacks after first joining the club in 2020. He was a key player during the 2021 USL Championship season, helping the Independence earn the first playoff win in club history.
Born in Jacksonville, Fla., and raised in Alpharetta, Ga., Pack starred collegiately at UNC Charlotte, helping the 49ers capture the 2013 Conference USA Men's Soccer Championship and the 2014 Conference USA regular season title.
Pack made his professional debut with the NASL's Puerto Rico FC in the 2017 Caribbean Club Championship, posting a clean sheet against Caymanian side Scholars International Sports Club. He went on to play professionally with a quartet of USL Championship sides - Portland Timbers 2, Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC, the Charlotte Independence and Hartford Athletic - before returning to Charlotte in 2022.
"Austin brings valuable experience and leadership to our goalkeeper unit," said Tormenta FC Head Coach Ian Cameron. "His consistency and reliability in goal make him a key asset to our team this season. He's proven to be one of the most consistent performers in USL League One these past few seasons, and we aim to add a couple of tools to his game over the course of this year."
