GREENVILLE, S.C. - Greenville Triumph SC today announced the re-signings of veteran defenders Brandon Fricke and Tyler Polak and promising goalkeeper Gunther Rankenburg, pending league and federation approval.

32-year-old defenders Fricke and Polak - members of Triumph SC since the 2020 and 2019 seasons, respectively - helped Greenville win the 2020 League One title and Players' Shield. They are two of only nine players in League One history who have participated in all six previous seasons. Fricke - the 2020 USL League One Defender of the Year - is a four-time All-League selection, while Polak has been named to the All-League First Team on two occasions.

Fricke's 141 League One appearances are third in league history, and Polak's 136 are fifth in league history. Similarly, Fricke's 11,915 minutes played are second in league history, and Polak's 11,570 minutes played are the fourth in league history. Fricke and Polak are two of only three players in league history to have amassed 60 or more League One victories.

Rankenburg played collegiately at Georgia State University from 2018-22, earning 2021 All-MAC First Team and 2021 All-MAC Tournament Team honors in 2021. In 2019, the goalkeeper played in USL League Two with Peachtree City MOBA and was named to the 2019 League Two 20 Under 20 List. The 25-year-old Marietta, Ga. native began his professional career in 2023 with Greenville, recording seven clean sheets across 23 appearances for the side.

Fricke returns to the club for his sixth season. Prior to arriving in Greenville, the Grimes, Iowa native spent the inaugural League One season with Lansing Ignite FC, captaining the team to the 2019 USL League One Playoffs. Fricke played his collegiate soccer at Butler University, appearing in 71 matches before being drafted by the Colorado Rapids in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft.

Greenville's first-ever player signing, Tyler Polak, returns for his seventh season in the Upstate. After three standout seasons at Creighton University, the Lincoln, Neb. native was drafted by the New England Revolution with the 22nd overall selection in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft. After a handful of appearances with the Revs, Polak spent time with the Rochester Rhinos (2013), Minnesota United FC (2014-15), FC Cincinnati (2016-17) and Saint Louis FC (2018) before signing with Greenville in 2019.
