USL League One announces Finalists for Comeback Player of the Year presented by Tiger Balm

Fan voting open to decide winner among four nominees who exemplified perseverance in the face of adversity

TAMPA, Fla. – USL League One announced on Tuesday the nominees for the 2024 USL League One Comeback Player of the Year award presented by Tiger Balm, recognizing four nominees who made a substantial impact for their respective sides after overcoming injury or adversity during the previous season.

The four nominees were selected by the USL Technical Panel after nominations by clubs conducted after the 2024 USL League One Playoffs.

The 2024 USL League One Comeback Player of the Year award presented by Tiger Balm will be decided by a fan vote, with the poll set to run through Monday, December 16 at 12 p.m. ET.

2024 USL League One Comeback Player of the Year Nominees

Clay Dimick, Charlotte Independence – Dimick became the first professional athlete to return to action after undergoing a two-level cervical artificial disc replacement, a procedure in which two ruptured discs in the neck are removed and replaced with artificial discs to alleviate spinal cord or nerve compression. After a lengthy period of rehab, Dimick played every minute of the 2024 League One campaign, helping the Independence reach the League One Playoffs and the Semifinals of the USL Jägermeister Cup.

Andre Lewis, Spokane Velocity FC – The Jamaican midfielder found a new lease on life as he joined expansion Spokane Velocity for its inaugural season, recording four goals and three assists as he appeared in every game of the side’s inaugural campaign in USL League One. Lewis performance in central midfield saw him earn a +2.18 Goals Added Above Average mark to lead Velocity per American Soccer Analysis, which also graded out as the highest among Defensive Midfielders in the league.

Devin Boyce, Forward Madison FC – An offseason arrival from Greenville Triumph, Boyce returned to the form that saw him earn All-League honors in 2021 with a career-high six goals and three assists across all competitions for the Flamingos. The 28-year-old’s numbers creativity saw him post a 5.23 Expected Assists mark across all competitions as he helped the Flamingos reach the inaugural USL Jägermeister Cup Final and the Semifinals of the 2024 USL League One Playoffs.

Jamie Smith, Greenville Triumph SC – In his third season in Greenville, Smith came into his own with a career high in minutes (2,524) as he made 22 appearances in the USL League One regular season and playoffs and played seven out of eight games in the USL Jägermeister Cup group stage. The center back was among the key players in Triumph’s top-four finish in League One, ending the campaign with a +1.62 Goals Added Above Average mark which ranked second on the team to Golden Boot winner Lyam MacKinnon.
