THE BIG PICTURE

  • Perennial power Union Omaha and first-year expansion side Spokane Velocity FC will face off in the 2024 USL League One Final at Werner Park. Omaha are a win away from becoming the first team to win the League One title twice, while Spokane can become the first expansion team in league history to win the title in its inaugural season.
WHAT MATTERS

  • Winners in Werner: Werner Park becomes the first venue to host multiple USL League One Finals, as Omaha will have the opportunity to be the first team in league history to add a second star to their crest. Omaha led the regular season in home wins with seven, and after two more home victories in postseason play, the Owls will now look to seal the deal in front of their supporters once again.
  • All even in 2024: Omaha and Spokane have played to an even, 2-2-0 record across both USL League One and USL Jägermeister Cup play this season. While the home side has won each meeting, Omaha has been particularly dominant at home against Spokane, beating the first-year side twice with a combined goal differential of +7 through two victories at Werner Park.
  • Ignore everything else: Coming in as the seventh seed, not many expected Spokane to advance out of the Quarterfinals, but any doubt has turned into belief as Spokane are just a few days away from participating in its first final. On the way there, Spokane became the first team in USL League One Playoffs history to beat multiple higher-seeded opponents and matched a League One Playoffs record with two clean sheets in a single postseason.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

  • M - Luis Gil (SPK): The former United States Men's National Team midfielder will look to claim his first league title against his former club. A season after winning the Players' Shield with Omaha, Spokane's inaugural captain has thrived with the first-year side, constructing the most productive season of his 15-year professional career with 11 goals and five assists across all competitions. Gil has scored a goal in all three meetings with his former club this season.
  • M - Aarón Gómez (OMA): Reuniting with former El Paso Locomotive FC assistant and current Omaha head coach Dominic Casciato over the offseason, Gómez was crucial to his side in a Semifinal victory against Greenville Triumph SC, recording a goal and an assist to confirm a comeback victory. Looking forward, the forward will again get the chance to prove his worth and should be the player to watch in Omaha's most important game of the season.
