2024 USL League One Awards Finalists Unveiled

Leading performers across five categories nominated for season-ending honors

TAMPA, Fla. – USL League One today announced the finalists for the 2024 USL League One Awards, with the leading performers in five categories earning nominations following the league's sixth campaign. The award winners will be announced between Tuesday, Nov. 12 and Saturday, Nov. 16.

Of the 11 players recognized as awards finalists, nine were honored for the first time. Further, players or coaches from eight of 12 League One teams earned representation as finalists.

The 2024 USL League One Awards were voted on by each team's technical staff and executives and only accounts for 2024 USL League One regular season play.

GOALKEEPER OF THE YEAR FINALISTS

WINNER ANNOUNCED Tuesday, Nov. 12

  • Lalo Delgado, Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC: The 2024 All-League Second Team selection and 2023 Goalkeeper of the Year finalist extended his strong form in his second season in Windsor, Colo., recording nine clean sheets, 46 saves and 0.82 goals-against average mark. The 26-year-old shot-stopper added 149 recoveries, 120 successful goal kicks, 16 clearances, seven duels won, five fouls won and one chance created.
  • Sean Lewis, One Knoxville SC: In his second season in Knoxville, Lewis earned his second consecutive All-League honor and became the third consecutive goalkeeper to claim back-to-back Golden Gloves, posting a season-best 0.73 goals-against average mark. Racking up an 8-5-5 record in the 18 matches he played, Lewis totaled seven clean sheets, 52 saves and 147 recoveries. The USL veteran conceded multiple goals in a single match only twice all season.
  • Bernd Schipmann, Forward Madison FC: In his second season at Breese Stevens Field, the former Philippines international recorded nine clean sheets – tied for the most on the season – and conceded only 18 goals – tied for the fewest among goalkeepers who played in all 22 matches. Schipmann's 0.82 goal-against average mark was the second-best on the season, and the 30-year-old 'keeper totaled an additional 185 recoveries, 71 completed long passes, 49 saves, 14 clearances and 10 duels won to help Madison to a club-best, top-three finish.

Defender OF THE YEAR FINALISTS

WINNER ANNOUNCED Wednesday, Nov. 13

  • Mitch Osmond, Forward Madison FC: Madison's Australian captain helped the 'Mingos rack up nine clean sheets and concede only 18 goals with his 74 recoveries, 73 duels won, 24 aerial duels won, 21 tackles won, 18 interceptions and 14 blocks. The 30-year-old also led all players with 1,328 total passes and 1,228 passes completed.
  • Bruno Rendón, Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC: Rendón followed up his 2023 All-League Second Team campaign with a stellar showing in 2024 to earn All-League First Team honors, leading the league with 169 duels won and helping the Hailstorm to a club-record, top-two finish. The versatile, 24-year-old Cuban also tallied six goals, two assists, 88 recoveries, 75 aerial duels won, 47 completed long passes, 35 clearances, 29 tackles won, 28 fouls won, 26 dribbles completed, 22 chances created, 16 shots on target and 14 interceptions.
  • Jordan Skelton, One Knoxville SC: The longtime USL League One defender has broken out over the past two seasons in Knoxville, earning All-League First Team honors in back-to-back seasons. The 27-year-old Newcastle, England native helped Knoxville total nine clean sheets and a league-low 16 goals conceded through his 115 clearances, 101 duels won, 81 recoveries, 70 completed long passes, 19 blocks and 89.6% passing accuracy rate.

Young PLayer OF THE YEAR FINALISTS

WINNER ANNOUNCED Thursday, Nov. 14

  • Luis Álvarez, Charlotte Independence: The rising Honduran talent constructed the most productive season of his young career, totaling four goals and two assists to earn All-League First Team honors a season after helping his Jacks to the 2023 USL League One Final. The 21-year-old provided 101 recoveries, 95 duels won, 63 completed long passes, 30 tackles won, 22 chances created, 20 dribbles completed, 19 fouls won, 15 shots on target, 11 interceptions and 10 clearances. Among the 40 players eligible for Young Player of the Year, Álvarez finished first in minutes, goals, tackles won, recoveries and long passes completed.
  • Griffin Garnett, Richmond Kickers: The 18-year-old Richmond native joined his hometown club on a USL Academy over the offseason before inking his first professional contract in August after impressing over the first half of the season. The defender made 20 appearances in the regular season, totaling 74 clearances, 53 duels won, 49 recoveries, 47 completed long passes, 18 tackles won and an 87.1% passing accuracy rate; the first-year professional recorded his first goal contribution with an assist in Richmond's comeback victory against Chattanooga on Oct. 20 to help the Roos clinch a postseason berth. Among the 40 players eligible for Young Player of the Year, Garnett finished first in blocks and clearances, and of the 40 who played multiple matches, Garnett accrued the greatest passing accuracy rate.
  • Alfredo Midence, Central Valley Fuego FC: Through only 15 matches and 1,064 minutes of regular season play, the 22-year-old locked up the Golden Playmaker award and All-League Second Team honors in his first professional season with a league-leading eight assists. Midence's 133 minutes per assist is the most in a single regular season in league history among players who participated in at least 25% of their team's minutes, and the 22-year-old added two goals, 95 duels won, 43 dribbles completed, 39 chances created, 28 recoveries, 27 fouls won, 25 completed long passes and 11 shots on target. Among the 40 players eligible for Young Player of the Year, Midence finished first in assists, goal contributions, chances created, successful crosses and dribbles completed.

Coach OF THE YEAR FINALISTS

WINNER ANNOUNCED Friday, Nov. 15

  • Dominic Casciato, Union Omaha: In just his second season as a head coach, Casciato guided Omaha to back-to-back Players' Shields. The 2023 Coach of the Year led the Owls to a 15-5-3 record and tallied the second-most points per game (2.18) and the most goals per game (2.14) in a single season in league history. Omaha led all teams with 13 points gained from losing positions this season and set a new single-season league record with a +23 goal differential.
  • Darren Sawatzky, Richmond Kickers: The only coach remaining from USL League One's inaugural 2019 campaign, Sawatzky rallied Richmond to a postseason position after spending the majority of the season below the playoff line. The 2022 USL League One Coach of the Year led the Kickers to a 6-10-6 record and first postseason berth since claiming the 2022 Players' Shield.
  • Éamon Zayed, Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC: Zayed has extended his side's upward trajectory, taking the Hailstorm from seventh to third to second in the table across his three years at the helm. Zayed – the only former League One player to manage a League One team on a permanent basis – led Northern Colorado to a 12-5-5 season, and the Hailstorm's two points dropped from winning positions were tied for the second-fewest in a single season in league history.

PLayer OF THE YEAR FINALISTS

WINNER ANNOUNCED Saturday, Nov. 16

  • Pedro Dolabella, Union Omaha: After totaling 10 goal contributions across 30 regular season matches for the Owls a season ago, Dolabella exploded for 14 goal contributions in 11 fewer matches this season to earn a place on the All-League First Team. The 25-year-old Brazilian helped Omaha claim the USL League One Players' Shield for the second consecutive season with his 107 duels won, 82 recoveries, 53 completed long passes, 34 fouls won, 26 clearances, 20 shots on target, 17 interceptions, 16 chances created and 14 dribbles completed.
  • Lyam MacKinnon, Greenville Triumph SC: Greenville's all-time leading scorer led the league with 16 goals to claim the Golden Boot and All-League First Team honors. MacKinnon also led all players with 21 goal contributions, 35 shots on target, four braces and four penalties won. According to American Soccer Analysis, the 25-year-old led all players with a 3.81 goals-added value this season, tied for the second-most in a single season in league history behind Trevor Amann's (NCO) record of 5.68 set in 2023.
  • Bruno Rendón, Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC: Enjoying a breakout season across all competitions in his second year with Northern Colorado, Rendón's recognition marks the third consecutive season a Hailstorm defender has been named a Player of the Year finalist. The Cuban defender led the league with 169 duels won and enjoyed success lining up all across the pitch, at times playing as a defender, midfielder and forward. Rendón registered six goals, two assists and, according to American Soccer Analysis, finished second in the league with a 3.29 goals-added value.
