It all comes down to six-match Saturday slate

Before the expanded 2024 USL League One Playoffs kicks off next month, the regular season will conclude on Saturday with a high-stakes edition of Judgment Day. While the postseason field is set, final table positioning and statistical award winners will be decided.

Ahead of Week 25, find News & Notes, the Discipline Report and current player, team and league records below.

NEWS & NOTES

JUDGMENT DAY IS SURE TO DELIVER

The final weekend of the regular season - Judgment Day - is upon us and all 12 teams are in action for one of the most exciting regular-season finales in league history. While the eight postseason teams are locked in, every team aside from Players' Shield-winning Omaha can see their final table position altered by Saturday evening.

A clear indication of an accelerated level of play with huge consequences, all five previous editions of Judgment Day have delivered more goals per match than their respective season averages. Since the league's inception, the final weekend of the regular season has delivered 7.25% more goals per match than the all-time league average of 2.76.

Percent increase in goals per match on Judgment Day compared to season average:

  1. +25% (2023)
  2. +17.6% (2020)
  3. +6.4% (2021)
  4. +2.8% (2022)
  5. +0.8% (2019)

Number of teams entering Judgment Day that can move up or down the table:

  1. 11 (2024)
  2. 10 (2023)
  3. 9 (2022)
  4. 9 (2021)
  5. 9 (2020)
  6. 8 (2019)

STELLAR SCORING SEASONS

Possibly overlooked with the addition of the USL Jägermeister Cup and subsequent reduction of regular season matches, Greenville's Lyam MacKinnon and Charlotte's Juan Carlos Obregón, Jr. have enjoyed stellar scoring seasons across all competitions. With a maximum of four matches remaining, both MacKinnon and Obregón, Jr. are within striking distance of Trevor Amann's record of 27 goals scored for a USL League One team in a single season across all competitions.

Most goals scored for a USL League One team in a single season, across all competitions:

  1. Trevor Amann (NCO, 2023) - 27
  2. Lyam MacKinnon (GVL, 2024) - 20
  3. Juan Carlos Obregón, Jr. (CLT, 2024) - 19
  4. Kazaiah Sterling (TRM, 2022) - 18
  5. Emiliano Terzaghi (RIC, 2022) - 18
  6. Emilano Terzaghi (RIC, 2021) - 18
  7. Oalex Anderson (NC, 2023) - 17
  8. Ronaldo Damus (NTX, 2019) - 16
  9. Pedro Dolabella (OMA, 2024) - 15
  10. Ates Diouf (LEX, 2023) - 15
  11. Marios Lomis (GVL, 2021) - 15
  12. Jordan Perruzza (TOR, 2019) - 15
