TAMPA, Fla. – USL League One today announced the Team of the Week for Week 23 of the 2024 regular season with Greenville Triumph SC midfielder Lyam MacKinnon named Player of the Week presented by Konami eFootball with a brace against Spokane Velocity FC.
Already confirmed as Greenville's all-time leading scorer through only two seasons at the club, MacKinnon won a penalty and registered a brace on the road against Spokane on Saturday. The contest served as MacKinnon's 11th multi-goal-contribution match of his Greenville career. Now leading the USL League One Golden Boot race with 14 regular season goals, MacKinnon's 20 goals across all competitions this season is a club record.
The second-year professional picks up his fifth USL League One Player of the Week honor this season - the most in a single season in league history - bringing his total to a league-record seven across his two seasons in Greenville.
In total, Madison lead the way with three starters named to the Team of the Week, while Northern Colorado and Greenville also place multiple starters on the Team of the Week. South Georgia, Central Valley and Spokane also placed multiple members across the Team of the Week and Team of the Week bench.
COACH - Rick Wright, Greenville Triumph SC: The first-year Greenville gaffer helped Triumph SC extend its unbeaten streak to four with a 3-2 victory in Spokane. Per American Soccer Analysis, Greenville led all teams in points won above expected (1.02) and goal differential above expected goal differential (1.54).
GK - Bernd Schipmann, Forward Madison FC: The former Philippines international made three saves in Madison's 2-1 victory against Chattanooga. Schipmann also added 15 recoveries and completed over 89% of his passes. According to American Soccer Analysis, the 30-year-old shot-stopper was among the top two 'keepers in Week 23 with 0.38 goals conceded below expected and a 0.53 goals-added value.
D - Jake Dengler, South Georgia FC: Enjoying the most productive scoring season of his five-year professional career, the Tormenta FC captain scored South Georgia's opening goal - his fourth of the season across all competitions. The 25-year-old Baltimore native added 11 clearances, eight completed long passes, seven duels won, three blocks and three recoveries in South Georgia's 2-2 draw against Richmond.
D - Simon Fitch, Richmond Kickers: Fitch helped his hometown club remain above the playoff line with a goal and an assist - the first multi-goal-contribution match of his career - to salvage a draw on the road against South Georgia. The 25-year-old totaled four duels won, three total chances created, three recoveries, two interceptions, and completed over 88% of his passes. Per American Soccer Analysis, Fitch led all players with 1.79 points added.
D - David García, Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC: After claiming the League One title with North Carolina FC in his debut professional campaign a season ago, García secured the highest-scoring season of his two-year professional career with a stoppage-time winner in Charlotte. The Spaniard added eight recoveries, seven clearances, seven duels won, four completed long passes, and completed nearly 84% of his passes.
D - Sean Vinberg, Central Valley Fuego FC: After spending the entirety of his career in Germany, the 30-year-old New York City native bagged his first Fuego FC goal since joining over the offseason - an early match-winning goal against Spokane. Vinberg added five clearances, three completed long passes and one chance created.
M - Lyam MacKinnon, Greenville Triumph SC: Greenville's Swiss superstar reclaimed the Golden Boot lead with a brace in a road victory against Spokane. The 25-year-old also contributed with one penalty won, four duels won, two recoveries and one tackle won.
M - Isidro Martínez, Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC: The veteran midfielder provided the assist on David García's stoppage-time winner deep in stoppage time against Charlotte. Martínez also added nine recoveries, five duels won, four completed crosses, four successful long passes, four chances created, three tackles won, and completed over 80% of his tackles. Per American Soccer Analysis, Martínez led all players with a 6.45 passing score.
M - Aiden Mesias, Forward Madison FC: The 24-year-old Londoner made the most of his 55 minutes on the pitch against Chattanooga, opening the scoring in the 52nd minute with his career-best fourth goal of the season. Mesias added six duels won, three recoveries, two dribbles completed, and was accurate on over 90% of his passes. Mesias led all midfielders with a 0.40 goals-added value, per American Soccer Analysis.
M - Sebastián Velásquez, Greenville Triumph SC: The 33-year-old Upstate native has now directly contributed to Greenville's winning score in back-to-back matches, this time assisting Leo Castro's 67th-minute winner in Spokane. Through 85 minutes, Velásquez added nine recoveries, seven duels won, five completed long passes, four fouls won, three total chances created, two dribbles completed, and completed over 87% of his passes.
F - Christian Chaney, Forward Madison FC: Chaney buried a clutch stoppage-time winner from the spot to extend Madison's Players' Shield hopes and confirm the highest-scoring season of his nine-year professional career with 12 goals across all competitions. Madison's all-time leading scorer contributed with an additional four shots on target, four duels won and two chances created.
F - Josh Dolling, Spokane Velocity FC: One of two players to appear in each and every one of Spokane's 31 official matches in club history, Dolling recorded the eighth multi-goal-contribution match of his professional career with a goal and an assist against Greenville. The 26-year-old added one penalty won, five recoveries, three duels won, two total chances created, and completed over 86% of his passes.
