TAMPA, Fla. – USL League One today announced that Greenville Triumph SC midfielder Lyam MacKinnon has been voted USL League One Player of the Month presented by Konami eFootball after recording a month-best six goal contributions in September.
The second-year professional registered four goals and two assists in 262 minutes of play. The 25-year-old tallied one hat trick, 20 duels won, 10 recoveries, eight dribbles completed, seven shots on target, seven total chances created, four completed crosses and five fouls won. Per American Soccer Analysis, MacKinnon led all players with a 1.19 goals-added value.
MacKinnon helped Greenville to a four-point, 1-1-1 month with an assist in a 3-1 loss at Omaha on Sept. 7 before providing three goals and one assist in a 5-2 thrashing of Chattanooga on Sept. 14. With his four goal contributions against the Red Wolves, MacKinnon matched a League One record for most goal contributions in a single match and became the first player to reach that milestone on multiple occasions.
"I'm honored to be granted this award, and I think that it reflects the work the team put in to get back to winning ways in September," MacKinnon said. "I benefited from great performances from my teammates and am looking forward to us doing the same over the next two months."
"It's a great honor for a player who trained hard and played hard this season so far," Greenville head coach Rick Wright said. "He has earned it for sure."
MacKinnon received 48.4% of a weighted poll that included the USL League One Technical Committee and an online fan vote held at USLLeagueOne.com. Richmond Kickers midfielder João Gomiero finished second on 42.6% with his three goal contributions, while Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC midfielder Billy King finished third on 5.4% with two goals.
