TAMPA, Fla. – USL League One today announced the Team of the Week for Week 21 of the 2024 regular season with Lexington SC forward Cameron Lancaster named Player of the Week presented by Konami eFootball with the third hat trick of his decorated professional career in a 7-1 thrashing of Central Valley on Wednesday.
Following his three-goal performance to kick off Week 21, the Tottenham Hotspur FC Academy product and Louisville City FC legend has racked up 12 goals across all competitions in his first season with Lexington - the most in a single season for the 31-year-old since his 21-goal campaign with LouCity in 2021. Lancaster joins 2019 USL League One Golden Boot winner Ronaldo Damus (North Texas, 2019; San Diego, 2023) as the only player to record hat tricks in both the USL Championship and USL League One.
The final 7-1 scoreline against Central Valley on Wednesday matched the largest victory in League One history (Chattanooga 7 - 1 Charlotte; June 22, 2022) and served as the first-ever victory for the home side in the new Lexington SC Stadium.
"I think as a team we needed to put in a performance; it's about time we score a few goals in a game," Lancaster said. "We knew where we are in the table, that we needed to win, and that's what we did. I'm proud of the team."
"It's just one game at a time," said Lexington SC Head Coach Darren Powell after Wednesday's victory. "On any given night, scores can happen in different ways. We felt we should've scored more goals in certain games but that hadn't materialized, so we're just super proud of the way the guys came out tonight, stuck to the game plan and worked both sides of the ball as hard as they possibly could until the final whistle. Guys that came into the game late made impacts as well; all around, it's a really good team performance."
In total, Lexington lead all teams with four starters named to the Team of the Week. Richmond and Madison also place multiple starters on the Team of the Week, while Northern Colorado and Central Valley earned representation across both the Team of the Week and Team of the Week bench.
