TAMPA, Fla. – USL League One today announced that Central Valley Fuego FC midfielder Alfredo Midence has been voted USL League One Player of the Month presented by Konami eFootball after recording four assists in July.
Born in La Ceiba, Honduras, Midence moved to Laurel, Md. when he was 15. Before signing his first professional contract with Central Valley earlier this season, Midence spent time in the D.C. United Academy and later with amateur sides Club Atlético Los Toros of the APL and Club Deportivo Laurel of the UPSL.
In his first season as a professional, the 22-year-old Midence already leads Central Valley with 10 goal contributions across all competitions. The Honduran led all players with four goal contributions in July in the form of a quartet of assists, adding 14 duels won, seven dribbles completed, six recoveries, five completed long passes and two additional chances created through only 142 minutes of play.
"I am very honored to be selected as the USL League One Player of the Month," said Midence. "From being recognized as Player of the Week in the previous week to Player of the Month now, it all comes from putting in the work."
"I think he deserves it, from what I've seen in training and how he puts the work in," said Central Valley Head Coach Jermaine Jones. "We all know that he's a special kid with a lot of talent, and I have said it before, but if he brings 100% focus he can be a difference-maker in this league. It's good that he showed it this month and hopefully he can pick it up and finish strong this season."
At 22 years, 5 months and 29 days old, Midence becomes the second-youngest Player of the Month in USL League One history behind then-20-year-old Arturo Rodríguez (NTX). Midence - only the second Player of the Month in Central Valley history - is also the sixth first-year professional to be named Player of the Month since the league's inception in 2019.
Midence received 52% of a weighted poll that included the USL League One Technical Committee and an online fan vote - in which he received a league-record 70% of the vote - held at USLLeagueOne.com. South Georgia Tormenta FC midfielder Pedro Fonseca finished second on 46.2% with his two goals and one assist, while One Knoxville SC goalkeeper Sean Lewis finished third on 1.2% with a trio of clean sheets and 12 saves.
