Midfielders, goalkeepers dominated month of July

TAMPA, Fla. – USL League One today announced the four nominees for the League One Player of the Month presented by Konami eFootball for July, with top performers from the sixth season's fifth month selected for the ballot.

Voting for the League One Player of the Month award will be conducted by the following two voting bodies:

  • A fan vote on USLLeagueOne.com will comprise 60% of the poll. The fan vote will run through Tuesday, Aug. 6 at 5:30 p.m. ET.

  • The USL Technical Committee's ballots comprise 40% of the poll.

The award winner and complete voting results will be announced on Wednesday, Aug 7.

Please note: The League One Player of the Month selection process in no way is tied directly to the voting and selection process of End of the Year awards such as League One Player of the Year or position players of the year. Additionally, the selection process does not take USL Jägermeister Cup matches into consideration.

USL LEAGUE ONE PLAYER OF THE MONTH NOMINEES – July

  • M - Pedro Fonseca, South Georgia Tormenta FC: Aiming to match his total of 17 goal contributions across all competitions from a season ago, Fonseca totaled two goals and one assist for South Georgia in July. The Fluminese FC youth product totaled 10 duels won, eight recoveries, and a league-leading six shots on target across 207 minutes of action. In addition to completing over 84% of his passes, the Brazilian led all players with 1.04 goals added, according to American Soccer Analysis.
  • GK - Sean Lewis, One Knoxville SC: Despite his side being outpossessed by an average margin of 23% and outshot by 27, Lewis led all goalkeepers with three clean sheets and registered 12 saves in Knoxville's unbeaten 2-0-1 July. Through 270 minutes of play in July, the 2023 USL League One Golden Boot winner also added 23 recoveries and completed 15 long passes.
  • M - Alfredo Midence, Central Valley Fuego FC: In his first season as a professional, the 22-year-old Midence already leads Central Valley with nine goal contributions across all competitions. The Honduran led all players with four assists in July, adding 14 duels won, seven dribbles completed, six recoveries, five completed long passes and two additional chances created through only 142 minutes of play.
  • M - Gabriel Obertan, Charlotte Independence: With a goal and two assists in July, the 35-year-old French veteran has now registered 10 goal contributions across all competitions this season for the first time since the 2017-18 campaign with PFC Levski Sofia in Bulgaria. Obertan helped Charlotte to a perfect 3-0-0 month with 11 duels won, nine recoveries, eight chances created, six completed long passes and three completed dribbles across 211 minutes of action.
