League's leading scorer sets records in second professional season

TAMPA, Fla. – USL League One today announced the Team of the Week for Week 12 of the 2024 regular season with Greenville Triumph SC midfielder Lyam MacKinnon named Player of the Week presented by Konami eFootball with two goals and one assist across a pair of victories against Charlotte and Knoxville.

The 24-year-old scored the match-winning goal in a 2-0 victory against Charlotte on Wednesday before registering the match-winning assist and an additional goal in Greenville's 2-0 victory at Knoxville. MacKinnon's 20 career goals across all competitions for Greenville have established the Swiss midfielder as the club's joint-all-time leading scorer with teammate Leo Castro.

MacKinnon becomes the first player in USL League One history to be named Player of the Week three times before Week 13 of the regular season and joins Alex Morrell (Greenville, 2020) as the only player to be named Player of the Week three times in a single season. Since turning professional with Triumph SC a season ago, the FC Lausanne-Sport youth product and Villanova University standout has been named USL League One Player of the Week five times and USL Jägermeister Cup Player of the Round once.

"I'm grateful for the opportunity to play with a team that is so special," MacKinnon said. "These awards have come after brilliant team performances, and in very tough matches. I've benefitted a lot from services from my teammates this year and try to capitalize on them as much as possible. Hopefully, we can keep this energy going through the rest of the year and compete for two trophies at the end of the season."

"The biggest thing about Lyam is that he's got some very high goals for the season that he's established and we've set for him and the team," said Greenville Head Coach Rick Wright. "He's very goal-oriented and he evaluates himself after every game. We talk about it and look at video after each match and he's very strong-minded - he wants to score goals - so it's well-deserved and we're lucky to have him."

In total, eight teams are represented on a Team of the Week dominated by five Greenville starters. Northern Colorado joins Greenville as the only team to place multiple starters on the Team of the Week, while Spokane were represented on a club-best five occasions across the starting lineup and bench.
