Spokane, Madison make big moves after big wins

Following an action-packed, six-match Saturday in the USL Jägermeister Cup last weekend, the focus returns to league play. In the Prinx Tires USL League One Power Rankings, we take a look at how each team is progressing as the season unfolds.

Average Ranking: 2		 Heading into Saturday’s match in Spokane, Union Omaha was 11-5-5 against League One expansion clubs in their first season in the league. Velocity FC handed the League One Players’ Shield holders their first loss in USL Jägermesiter Cup play.
3 Spokane Velocity FC

Last Week: 5
Average Ranking: 7		 After exiting the U.S. Open Cup with an extra-time loss to USL Championship club Las Vegas Lights FC on April 17, Spokane have gone unbeaten in all three matches since. A thrilling stoppage-time victory against one of the league’s best last weekend was huge.
4 Charlotte Independence
LEAGUE: (3-1-1)
CUP: (0-1-1)
Round 2: L v MAD 		1
Last Week: 3
Average Ranking: 5		 Charlotte was enjoying an eight-match unbeaten stretch across all competitions heading into the Round of 32 of the U.S. Open Cup, but since then, the Jacks have dropped a pair of tough results to Atlanta Untied FC and Forward Madison FC in less than a week.
5 Forward Madison FC
LEAGUE: (2-0-3)
CUP: (1-1-0)
Round 2: W @ CLT		 2
Last Week: 7
Average Ranking: 6		 Across USL League One and USL Jägermeister Cup play, the ‘Mingos have lost only once. A first-ever victory against Charlotte on Saturday has the ‘Mingos a win away from topping the Central Group.
6 One Knoxville SC
LEAGUE: (3-1-1)
CUP: (1-1-0)
Round 2: L v NCO		 2
Last Week: 4
Average Ranking: 4		 One Knoxville SC recorded the largest loss in the club’s three-year history on Saturday, suffering an embarrassing 5-1 loss to a struggling Northern Colorado side. Mark McKeever’s boys should be able to get back on track as they travel to Fresno on Friday.
7 Richmond Kickers
LEAGUE: (1-3-2)
CUP: (0-1-1)
Round 2: L @ CHA		 1
Last Week: 6
Average Ranking: 9		 The Kickers’ winless streak stretched to six following a difficult loss in Chattanooga on Saturday. A pair of matchups against recent Players’ Shield winners Greenville and South Georgia await the Kickers in the coming weeks.
8 South Georgia Tormenta FC
LEAGUE: (2-4-1)
CUP: (0-1-1)

Average Ranking: 9		 Since the Ibises defeated USL Championship side Miami FC in the U.S. Open Cup on April 21 they’ve gone winless in five consecutive contests and have lost three straight matches.
9 Lexington SC
LEAGUE: (1-3-2)
CUP: (1-0-1)
Round 2: T(W,PK) v CV
Last Week: 9
Average Ranking: 7		 Lexington only ended up dropping one point against Central Valley after winning the penalty kick shootout, but there’s no reason why the second-year side shouldn’t have been walking away with all three after being up a man for 85 minutes and up two goals 20 minutes into the match.
10 Chattanooga Red Wolves SC
LEAGUE: (1-1-1)
CUP: (1-1-0)
Round 2: W v RIC
Last Week: 10
Average Ranking: 10		 The Red Wolves claimed a dramatic late winner in what will officially go down as an own goal off of the Kickers’ ‘keeper. Still, Scott Mackenzie will hope to build on that momentum as they take on South Georgia in Statesboro on Saturday.
11 Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC
LEAGUE: (0-2-2)
CUP: (1-0-1)
Round 2: W @ KNX		 1
Last Week: 12
Average Ranking: 8		 It’s only one result, but to pull out the largest win in club history after such a slow start to the season should make the Hailstorm faithful feel pretty good as we near the midway point of the 2024 campaign.
12 Central Valley Fuego FC
LEAGUE: (1-5-0)
CUP: (0-0-2)
Round 2: T (L,PK) @ LEX

Last Week: 11
Average Ranking: 11		 To earn a point after playing down a man and trailing by two goal was impressive from Fuego FC. Jermaine Jones’ side will look to grab its second league win of the season on Friday before a pair of tough USL Jägermeister Cup fixtures against Omaha and Northern Colorado.
