Union Omaha gets home draw in 2022 rematch with Sporting Kansas City, Independence head to Atlanta, Tormenta to face Battery

CHICAGO – The draw for the Round of 32 in the 2024 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup was announced on Thursday lunchtime as the remaining three teams from USL League One learned their path for the next two rounds of the historic tournament.

Union Omaha was the lone side of the three to receive a home draw as it will welcome Sporting Kansas City to Nebraska for a rematch of the Quarterfinal matchup in 2022. Undefeated so far this season, Omaha will be hoping its homefield advantage and strong start to the current season allows it to turn the tables on SKC this time around after Sporting ended Los Búhos dream run in their Open Cup two years ago.

The Charlotte Independence will head on the road to face 2019 Open Cup title winner Atlanta United FC as it tries to advance to the Round of 16 for the first time since its inaugural season in 2015 when Jorge Herrera led an upset on the road against the New England Revolution.

South Georgia Tormenta FC, meanwhile, will face a short trip to face current USL Championship Eastern Conference title holder the Charleston Battery. The meeting will be a rematch from the 2022 edition of the tournament when Tormenta claimed a 1-0 victory against Charleston behind a goal by Arthur Bosua.
