BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - In a rematch of the Second Round matchup between the pair, Chattanooga Red Wolves SC lost to USL Championship side Birmingham Legion FC in the Third Round of the 2024 U.S. Open Cup at Varsity Soccer Field in Montevallo, Ala. after extra time. A pair of Red Wolf goals against the run of play interrupted what was ultimately a dominant Legion FC performance. While the match ended level at two goals apiece after 90 minutes, a red card to Gustavo Fernandes for denial of a goalscoring opportunity just before extra time proved to be costly for Chattanooga, resulting in a pair of extra-time scores from Stéfano Pinho. Chattanooga's progression to the Third Round of the 2024 U.S. Open Cup was the best finish in the tournament in the club's six-year existence.
Stéfano Pinho (BHM) – In the first four-goal U.S. Open Cup performance since the Richmond Kickers' Charles Boateng netted a quartet in 2019, Stéfano Pinho powered Birmingham beyond a hungry Chattanooga side with four goals, 10 duels won and five fouls drawn.
