GREENVILLE, S.C.  Greenville Triumph SC today announced that 21-year-old defender Hassan Gabo has received his first senior international call-up to the Somalia national team for CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 preliminary qualifiers.

Gabo will be available for selection in the Ocean Stars' two-legged preliminary qualifying fixtures against Eswatini between March 20 and March 26. Gabo is expected to be on international duty until March 27.

Gabo completed his debut professional season last year as one of Greenville's youngest players. Gabo signed his first professional contract with Greenville in February 2023 and made his professional debut on April 22, 2023, securing a 2-0 win over Lexington SC.

Despite facing injuries throughout the season, Gabo tallied 15 duels won, seven recoveries, six clearances, four interceptions and three tackles won across six matches and 115 minutes played. Gabo made his 2024 debut as a substitute in Greenville's season-opening, 3-1 victory over Spokane Velocity FC on Saturday, March 9.

Former Triumph SC players Omar and Abdi Mohamed connected with and trained Gabo through their soccer development program in Somalia, the 18x26 Academy. Gabo's signing a season ago marked the first 18x26 Academy player to move into the professional ranks.

Gabo moved to Utah from Somalia in 2011 and developed his skills in the Salt Lake City soccer community. The defender competed for VK Cobras FC's youth team between 2019 and 2020 and had a stint with Real Salt Lake's U-17 squad.

In 2022, Gabo received his first international call-up to represent the Somalia U-20 youth national team at the 2022 Arab Cub in Saudi Arabia.
