PAPILLION, Neb. – Union Omaha today announced the signing of Ryen Jiba, pending league and federation approval. Jiba rejoins from Minnesota United FC after the expiry of his contract - he was drafted by the Major League Soccer (MLS) club following his first spell in Omaha in 2022.

At the time, Jiba's move to the Loons' first-team squad commanded a USL League One record-breaking fee, helping showcase the value of the league's young talent. The South Sudanese defender was fresh off his first season as a pro which saw him feature in 34 matches across all competitions and receive a USL League One Young Player of the Year nomination. Jiba played the third-most minutes on the team in 2022, recording three assists and creating 16 chances. He earned a trio of USL League One Team of the Week selections. In his 28 league appearances, the then-21-year-old also racked up 27 interceptions and won 142 duels as a vital contributor to the league's top defensive unit.

Jiba, a native of Pasco, Wash., first caught the eye of scouts playing for Salt Lake Community College. He earned regional first-team honors three times and was the 2019 NJCAA Region 18 Player of the Year with the Bruins before spending a brief stint with Park City Red Wolves SC of USL League Two. He was also named to the 2019 Best XI team, honoring the nation's best players during the U.S. Youth Soccer National Championship Series.

"We are delighted to welcome Ryen back to the club and back to the community that feels like home to him," said Union Omaha Head Coach Dominic Casciato. "We look forward to seeing him hit top gear this season."

"I am really glad to be back and to play for Union Omaha again," said Jiba. "The fanbase is wonderful!"
