GREENVILLE, S.C. – Greenville Triumph SC announced the signing of defensive midfielder Louis "Chapa" Herrera, pending league and federation approval.

The El Paso, Texas native played soccer at Bel Air High School but did not receive any college offers. Herrera worked in construction to support his family but continued to play soccer for the MASL's El Paso Coyotes and at regional tournaments. It was at an Alianza de Futbol tournament in 2019 that Herrera was spotted by then-El Paso Locomotive FC Head Coach Mark Lowry and invited to a private trial. He signed with the USL Championship club ahead of its inaugural campaign.

After five years with the club, Herrera became one of just four players in club history to make over 100 appearances. In total, Herrera amassed 4,695 minutes and three goals despite sustaining an injury that sidelined him for the majority of the 2022 season. The defensive midfielder also earned the captain’s armband, wearing it for the first time in the Locomotive's 2-0 win at Hartford Athletic in 2023.
