LEXINGTON, Ky. – Lexington SC on Monday announced the addition of former North Texas SC Head Coach Javier Cano as an assistant coach.

Cano began his coaching journey at CD Utiel in his native Utiel, Spain, managing various levels of the club's academy squads before moving to Levante UD Femenino in the Spanish Liga F.

At Levante, he was an assistant before he joined Mislata UF as head coach of the U-14 and U-15 academy teams. He continued coaching academy squads in Spain with a stint at Villarreal CF before moving to the Czech Republic to coach SK Slavia Praha U-21 team in the Czech Juniorska League

Cano then moved to America to be an academy coach at Major League Soccer side D.C. United, but was promptly called up to become assistant coach to the first team. When his time in D.C. ended he moved to fellow MLS club Austin FC and later FC Dallas, becoming the head coach of Dallas' MLS NEXT Pro affiliate club, North Texas SC, in 2023.

"It is an honor and a privilege to be part of the Lexington SC as an assistant coach," Cano said. "I am ready to embrace the challenge and the opportunity to grow as a coach and a leader."

Cano holds a master's degree in Sports Science from the Universitat de Valencia, a UEFA Pro coaching license and an Elite Formation Coaching License.

"We are pleased that Javier is joining the coaching staff here at LSC. His experiences in Spain and the United States will help our players and team develop well in the future," Lexington Head Coach Darren Powell said. "He has excellent tactical knowledge and experience in player development which is very important to our club. He will add to our staff and we are excited to have him and his family join us Lexington."
