MADISON, Wis. - Forward Madison FC today announced the signing of defender Ferrety Sousa for the 2024 season, pending league and federation approval. The defender played for Sacramento Republic FC during the 2023 USL Championship season, where he appeared in 10 matches across all competitions.

"Ferrety is a player that I have worked with in the past and brings a wealth of experience, leadership and versatility to our team," said Madison Head Coach Matt Glaeser. "He is a proven winner in both USL League One and in the Championship who can play multiple positions across the backline and midfield. I'm excited to add his vibrant personality to our team and city as we push towards continued progression in 2024."

Sousa was born in the Democratic Republic of the Congo but moved to Raleigh, N.C. where he spent most of his youth. He began his soccer career with the North Carolina FC's U-23 team, leading his squad to a USASA national championship in 2011.

Sousa joined French Championnat National 3 side FCM Aubervilliers in 2012 before signing his first professional deal with the NASL's Atlanta Silverbacks FC in 2013. Making appearances with the Silverbacks in 2014, 2015 and 2017, Sousa totaled 11 appearances with the club. In 2016, Sousa made 12 appearances for USL side Wilmington Hammerheads FC.

In 2019, Sousa joined the Las Vegas Lights in the USL Championship, making 15 appearances and recording three goal contributions across all competitions. Sousa signed with USL League One's Union Omaha the following season and contributed two goals and 40 appearances in two seasons to help the Owls win the 2021 USL League One Players' Shield and 2021 USL League One Final. After an impressive run in League One, he returned to the USL Championship to play for Sacramento Republic FC in 2022.
