GREENVILLE, S.C. – Greenville Triumph SC announced it has re-signed Somalia youth international Hassan Gabo ahead of the 2024 USL League One season, pending league and federation approval.

The 21-year-old defender completed his debut professional season last year as one of the youngest players on the team. Gabo signed his first professional contract with Greenville back in Feb. 2023.

Gabo made his professional debut on April 22, 2023, securing the 2-0 win over Lexington SC. Despite facing injuries throughout the season, Gabo tallied six clearances, four interceptions, 39 passes, 32 duels across a total of 116 minutes played.

Gabo moved to Utah in 2011 and developed his skills around the Salt Lake City soccer community. The defender competed for VK Cobras FC youth club between 2019 and 2020 and had a stint with the Real Salt Lake U-17 squad. He split time between high schools playing for Cottonwood High School and then Olympus High School, becoming a defensive force for Olympus and graduating in 2021. In 2022, Gabo received his first international call-up to represent the Somalia U-20 youth national team at the 2022 Arab Cub in Saudi Arabia.

Former Triumph SC players, Omar and Abdi Mohamed connected with and trained Gabo through their soccer development program in Somalia, the 18x26 Academy. Gabo's signing a season ago marked the first 18x26 Academy player to move into the professional ranks.

"Hassan is another really good signing for us," Greenville Head Coach Rick Wright said. "He's had a year under his belt understanding our club and our system. I think that moving forward as he's matured he will be a really good addition to our back line."
