CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Chattanooga Red Wolves SC on Wednesday announced that midfield standout Jonny Filipe will return to Chattanooga for his first full season, pending league and federation approval.

The attacking center midfielder joined the Red Wolves after being acquired on loan from USL Championship side Hartford Athletic in July 2023.

Filipe ended the 2023 season with six assists in just 13 matches, bringing his assists-per-match total to 0.46 which led all of USL League One. Filipe also notched two goals, 976 minutes recorded from 13 appearances, 11 starts, and a 72.9% passing rate with 240 successful passes and six assists. Filipe's two goals on the season came on Sept. 23 against Lexington SC and Oct. 7 against Greenville Triumph SC.

He earned a USL League One Player of the Week honor after contributing one goal and two assists against Lexington SC in the 5-3 Red Wolves win in Week 28. He was also named the  club's Timber Craft Whiskey Man of the Match on Saturday, Oct. 7th against Greenville Triumph SC which ended in a 2-2 draw.

"A massive contributor when he came in on loan, he was a must to sign on a permanent basis," said Chattanooga Head Coach Scott Mackenzie. "I expect we have only scratched the service of what Jonny can do for the Red Wolves. His impact on performance was clear to see. He is an extremely talented young player with a bright future and I am glad myself and Chattanooga Red Wolves SC are part of it."

"I am really looking forward to this upcoming season and hopefully pushing to make the playoffs this year," Filipe said. "I'm extremely excited to return to the Den and have a full season with all of the amazing and supportive fans."
