TAMPA, Fla. - USL League One today unveiled the first balanced regular season schedule in its history. The league's sixth campaign will also feature an in-season cup competition and an expanded postseason. Including regular season, cup competition and postseason matches, the 2024 campaign will feature 190 total matches spanning 36 weeks.
Each League One club will play 22 regular season matches – one home and one away match against each of the 11 other teams. In total, the regular season will feature 132 matches between March 9 and Oct. 26.
Following a record-breaking 2023 campaign, the 2024 season will kick off with three matches on its opening day. 2022 champions South Georgia Tormenta FC will host Central Valley Fuego FC in Fuego FC Head Coach Jermaine Jones' first match as a professional coach; the league's all-time winningest club in Greenville Triumph SC will host Spokane Velocity FC in the latter's inaugural league contest; and Lexington SC and new Head Coach Darren Powell will host a retooled Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC squad.
All 12 clubs will kick off on the final day of the regular season, Oct. 26, in a pivotal, high-stakes final day of the regular season. Matches of note on the final day include Greenville hosting South Georgia, Charlotte traveling to Richmond and Northern Colorado welcoming Madison to Windsor, Colo.
For the first time in league history, League One will introduce an in-season cup competition that will provide a platform for new fan experiences and lay the foundation for potential future competition innovations such as promotion and relegation within the USL ecosystem.
Dedicated cup matchdays will be integrated throughout the USL League One schedule. In 2024, the group stage will kick off the weekend of April 27 and finish the weekend of Aug. 31. The cup competition will feature 48 group stage matches and conclude with a pair of semifinal matches on the weekend of Sept. 11 followed by the cup final on the weekend of Sept. 28. No other League One matches will take place during the weekend of the cup final.
The 2024 USL League One Playoffs will be expanded to include the top eight regular season finishers - the largest postseason field in league history. The postseason will begin with the four quarterfinal matches on the weekend of Nov. 2 with the top four seeds hosting the four remaining lower seeds; No. 1 hosting No. 8, No. 2 hosting No. 7, No. 3 hosting No. 6 and No. 4 hosting No. 5.
The pair of semifinal matches will be hosted by the highest remaining seeds on the weekend of Nov. 9. The 2024 USL League One Final will be held on the weekend of Nov. 16 at the home venue of the highest remaining seed as the league concludes its sixth campaign. The seven total postseason matches will be the most in league history.
