Second-year professional shattered league's single-season scoring record

TAMPA, Fla. – USL League One today announced that Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC forward Trevor Amann was voted the 2023 USL League One Player of the Year. The highest-scoring outdoor professional soccer player on the continent this season, Amann shattered the single-season league scoring record in just his second season as a professional.

The All-League First Team forward and 2023 USL League One Golden Boot winner led the Hailstorm to a top-three finish with 23 goals and three assists on the season. The 25-year-old set single-season league records with seven braces, 109 total shots and 45 shots on target. In addition to his seven match-winning goals or assists, Northern Colorado's all-time leading scorer guided his side to a 13-2-2 record and +22 goal differential when scoring or assisting.

"It's an honor to win this award, so thank you," Amann said. "It's really a testament to all my teammates for putting me in great positions and believing in me all year. I'd like to thank the coaches and the support staff for giving me this opportunity to do what I love every day."

Amann's expected goals plus expected assists mark (21.52) and goals added value (5.80) were the most in a single season in league history, according to American Soccer Analysis. The Westminster, Colo. native is the 15th player in modern American soccer history to account for 23 or more goals in a single regular season and just the third lower-division player to achieve that feat.

"What can we say about Trevor that hasn't been said before? I think this was probably one of the easiest decisions anybody's made in terms of the awards in USL League One history," Northern Colorado Head Coach Éamon Zayed said. "For someone to not only just break the all-time goalscoring record, but to absolutely smash it with 23 goals - and obviously adding three in the playoffs - it's phenomenal.

"Arthur [Rogers] has been great, Oalex Anderson has been great for North Carolina, but Trevor has really been the standout this year. His goals, his work rate, how much he's developed from start to finish, it's been magnificent. What an achievement for Trevor, and it's a fantastic recognition for the club. To have two finalists for Player of the Year, to have a Defender of the Year two years running, and also to have the Player of the Year, is a great recognition for the club as a whole.

"I think Trevor will be the first person to hold his hand up and say he couldn't have done it and scored the goals without his teammates. Fantastic for the club and fantastic for Trevor. Absolutely well-deserved. I'm delighted for him."

Amann joins Mark Dodd (Colorado Foxes - Western Soccer League, 1990), Taifour Diané (Colorado Foxes - APSL, 1992), Wolde Harris (Colorado Foxes - A-League, 1996) and Hadji Barry (Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC - USL Championship, 2021) as the only players representing an outdoor professional soccer team in Colorado to win their respective league's Player of the Year award.

Of six players receiving votes, Amann finished first with 57% of the ballot to earn the award - the second-greatest percentage in league history. All-League First Team selection and 2023 USL League One Golden Boot runner-up Oalex Anderson finished second on 14% with 17 goals and six assists, while 2023 USL League One Golden Playmaker and back-to-back USL League One Defender of the Year Arthur Rogers finished third - via tiebreaker - on 10% by matching a league record with 11 assists.

The 2023 USL League One Awards were voted on by club technical staffs and executives.
