TAMPA, Fla. – No. 2 North Carolina FC will host the No. 4 Charlotte Independence in the 2023 USL League One Final on Sunday, Nov. 5 at 5 p.m. ET at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C. The league's fifth final will pit the pair of in-state rivals against each other in the 19th all-time Dogwood Derby and be broadcast nationally on ESPN2.
After back-to-back last-place finishes in its first two seasons in League One, North Carolina FC turned things around in a big way in 2023, finishing in second place ahead of its return to the USL Championship in 2024. For Charlotte, the Jacks have reached the first final in the club's nine-year history and join Greenville, North Texas and Omaha as the only clubs in League One history to reach the final within their first two seasons in the league.
The 2023 USL League One Playoffs marks the second consecutive postseason in which the Players' Shield holders were eliminated prior to reaching the final. Additionally, it's the second consecutive season in which the No. 4 seed has advanced to the USL League One Final.
UPDATE: The start time of the 2023 USL League One Final has been moved up from 8:30 p.m. ET to 5 p.m. ET.
